Former Indian actress, Mandakini started her career with the movie, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, which was a blockbuster. It brought Mandakini a whole lot of fame, and she continued to work in several other films, such as Dance Dance, Kahan Hai Kanoon, and Pyaar Karke Dekho. Her bold looks and acting skills made her stand out, and she began her journey on a strong note. Well, her personal life had become the talk of the town, due to her linkup with an underworld don. Later, she opted for spirituality and got married to a Buddhist monk. So, without further ado, let's dive deep into Mandakini's personal life.
Mandakini's personal life grabbed a whole lot of attention after her photo with International terrorist (designated) and Mumbai gangster, Dawood Ibrahim surfaced. Soon people started to link the duo romantically. Dawood used to assist several films financially, and he would often get spotted with many film stars and known faces from the glamour world. It might have been the same reason, why he was clicked with Mandakini. In the glamour world, which often remains filled with such link-up stories, a leading actress getting spotted with an underworld don created quite a serious conversation around.
Another reason for Dawood and Mandakini's link-up buzz spreading like wildfire was that reports also claimed that it was the don himself who had requested Raj Kapoor to cast Mandakini in a film. Another report also claimed that Dawood and Mandakini were married to one another, and they had a kid, with whom the speculated couple shifted to Dubai. Meanwhile, rumours were rife that Dawood even shot a filmmaker dead just because he didn't cast Mandakini in his film as a lead. There's no denying the fact that such reports continued to spark Dawood and Mandakini's link-up buzz.
Amid this, the 1993 Bombay blast added another layer of controversy in Mandakini's life. Dawood, who was the prime suspect in the case, left Mumbai a day before the incident, and given his link-up with Mandakini, the fuel also touched her. However, reportedly, she went underground after the incident took place, and later she was given a clean chit in this case.
There's no denying the fact that such a gossip might have taken a toll on Mandakini. She once talked about her link-up buzz with Dawood Ibrahim much later. Talking to Mid-Day, she revealed that such an incident had happened in the past, and she would not want anybody to talk about the same anymore. The former actress also called it very unfortunate that this buzz had been going rounds in the media over the years, making it even more controversial over and over again. Mandakini further stated that she had clarified her stance back then by denying the rumours. Mandakini also shared that after a certain point of time, certain things make people irritated, and to clear her image, she would necessarily not have to give clarification every six months. In Mandakini's words:

“I don't want people to connect me with Dawood any more or even think of that unfortunate episode. That's in the past now. I feel very bad that the media still wants to cash in on my name and make it as controversial as possible... I cleared my stand at that point of time. After some time, you get irritated. If you want to clean your image, it does not mean you have to give a statement every six months”.
Mandakini further credited her family members for helping her go through this tough situation. She mentioned that she was distressed at that time, and it so suddenly happened that she didn't even have the time to think about it. However, Mandakini, over the years, accepted it and learned to live under the pressure. Mandakini revealed:
“They helped me to forget things that were really disturbing at that point of time. The entire credit goes to my family. I was really distressed then, as things had happened too suddenly for me to even think about it. I got used to it and accustomed to live under that pressure”.
In the following years of her life, Mandakini opted for a spiritual path and became a follower of the Dalai Lama. She also began her journey with Tibetan yoga. Later, she also got married to a former Buddhist monk, Dr Kagyur T. Rinpoche Thakur. He was featured in advertisements in his childhood, but he later chose the path to become a Buddhist monk. He was a monk for 20 years of his life, and he has two kids with Mandakini, a son named, Rabbil and a daughter named Rabze Innaya. The couple together opened a Tibetan yoga center and also a Tibetan Herbal Centre in Mumbai. Talking about her husband, Mandakini once said:
“My husband was a monk for a major part of his life before we got married. He's a Dalai Lama follower and has always supported the Tibetan cause. It's not that I am consciously trying to be good to be back to doing movies. I'm still at home with my children”
While being on Kapil Sharma show, Mandakini talked about how she met her husband. She said her mom was from Himachal, and she would go there quite often. However, during one of the times she visited the mountains, she met with Dr Kagyur and got married there. Initially, Dr Kagyur didn't know Hindi, and thus, they had to communicate with his mom, who would translate Hindi for him, as he didn't understand it back then.
