India has witnessed one of the deadliest plane crashes in the history of aviation, where an Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which was en route to London's Gatwick airport, crashed within minutes of its take-off. The journey was originally supposed to last more than 9 hours to make its passengers meet their loved ones across oceans, but it ended in a tragedy, and there is no certain information behind its cause. While the news anchors, netizens and experts are speculating on what could be the possible reasons behind this disaster, a man who claims that he flew on the same flight just two hours before its crash shared details about his unexpected experience on the flight.
Akash Vatsa, who is an entrepreneur by profession, recently took to his X handle (formerly known as Twitter) and shared a few video clips. He claimed that he took the video when he had flown on the same Air India Boeing 787-8 flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad earlier on June 12, 2025 which met a tragedy. Just two hours after his flight landed safely, the aircraft was scheduled to operate as AI171 on a more than 9-hour long international haul to London, that had a horrifying crash after 5 minutes of its take off. He penned:
"I was in the same d**n flight 2 hours before it took off from AMD. I came here from DEL-AMD. I noticed unusual things in the place. Made a video to tweet to airindia. I would like to give more details."
Akash shared a video from his journey when it was about to taxi and shared that he had witnessed several malfunctions on the flight. He shared a glimpse of other passengers and mentioned that despite the extreme heat in Delhi, the air-conditioning system in the aircraft was not working. Later, he touched the in-flight entertainment system and a few other facilities for passengers to demonstrate how none of them worked. Pointing out the issues, he said the video:
"We are almost about to taxi. But the AC is not working. Look at everyone. AC is not working at all. And as usual, the TV screens are not working. Not even the light is working. Is this what you are providing?"
Akash's video went viral on X in no time and gained more than four million views within two hours. In an interview with The Red Mike, Akash explained that later after the flight, when he opened his Instagram, one of his contacts asked him to be careful as an Air flight had crashed. When he checked on the internet, he was shocked and started crying. Apart from AC and entertainment system issues, he also noticed that there was no button to call the cabin crew.
At the same time, Akash saw some wires covered with tissues near the overhead. However, he ignored those things. Given his passion for aviation, Akash used to always notice things in a flight carefully. He saw that the engine seemed fine, but there was some movement issue with the flaps. But, since he is no expert, he can't assure if it had anything to do with the crash or not. Akash said:

"Take off landing ke time jo flaps the, thoda sa movement mujhe sahi nahi. Not just me my father was with me. Mr. Ashok Kumar and my friend, Mr. Varun Jain, were also there with me."
According to multiple reports, it all started when the ill-fated Air India flight AI171 departed from Ahmedabad at 1:38 PM and met with a fatal crash within minutes of its take off. The flight crashed into the hostel of a medical college near Meghaninagar at around 2:00 PM. It had 242 passengers on board which included foreign nationals and 12 crew members. Air India has confirmed that out of those, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were British nationals, seven hailed from Portugal and one from Canada. Camera visuals showcased that the aircraft quickly began to lose altitude after take-off, and within moments, it crashed into the building of a hostel, and black smoke followed the crash.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones affected by the tragic Air India crash.
