Madhuri Dixit Was Fired From A Film By Tinnu Anand When She Refused To Remove Her Blouse On Camera

Madhuri Dixit is the undisputed queen of Bollywood, who has been ruling the industry since the 80s. Madhuri, who made her acting debut with the critically acclaimed film, Abodh, gave many hits in her career four decades. With films like Dil, Khal Nayak, Koyla, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Devdas, Dil To Pagal Hai, Aaja Nachle and many more, Madhuri carved her name in Bollywood.

Apart from her acting chops, Madhuri is also hailed for her effortless dancing. The dhak dhak girl of Bollywood stole many hearts with her dance numbers like Ek do teen, Didi tera dewar deewana, Chane ke khet mein, Choli ke peeche, Maar dala and many more. In a male-dominated industry, Madhuri paralleled with her male contemporaries and was the highest-paid actress in the 90s and 2000s.

On the personal front, Madhuri is married to Shriram Nene, a cardiovascular surgeon, and the duo embraced parenthood with the arrival of their sons, Arin and Ryan. Though Madhuri had a tremendous career trajectory, despite being one of the most sought-after actresses, she had some unpleasant memories during her career. One such controversy broke when the actress was fired from a film because she refused to remove her blouse in front of the camera. Read on to know about the same.

Madhuri Dixit was asked to remove her blouse and do a scene wearing a bra

The story goes back to 1989, when director, Tinnu Anand cast Amitabh Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit for the film, Shanakht. However, the director told Madhuri that she was supposed to remove her blouse on camera and do the scene in a bra.

He made it very clear to the actress that he would not hide anything behind a haystack and Madhuri agreed to do it. Speaking about the same in an interview with Radio Nasha, Tinnu Anand revealed:

“I had narrated the entire sequence to Madhuri and I told her that you have to remove your blouse and for the first time, we should see you in your bra. And I am not going to hide anything behind a haystack or anything. Because you are offering yourself to help a man who is trying to help you. So, it is a very important situation and I want to shoot it on the first day. She said okay.”

Tinnu Anand fired Madhuri Dixit when she backed out from the scene

Tinnu Anand, in the same conversation, also revealed that Madhuri was given the option to design her own bra, which would make her comfortable. It was the first scene to be shot for the movie, however, when the shot was ready, Madhuri backed out as she was not comfortable wearing just a bra on camera.

She didn’t get out of the dressing room for 45 minutes, and when Tinnu went to check on her, she told him she didn’t want to do the scene. Irked with Madhuri for backing out at the last moment, Tinnu forced her, but she was adamant. As a result, a miffed Tinnu fired her from the film and asked her to leave the set.

Amitabh Bachchan tried to convince Madhuri Dixit

When the film’s male lead, Amitabh Bachchan, reached the set, he enquired about the delay, and Tinnu narrated what happened. Amitabh tried to resolve the matter, but Madhuri wasn’t comfortable. Tinnu argued that if Madhuri had to object, she should have done it before signing the film.

Soon after the incident, the director started looking for a replacement for Madhuri in the film, However, Madhuri later agreed to do the scene. However, as destiny would have it, only a few portions of the film were shot as it was shelved permanently due to unresolved issues with the producers.
