Born on the day when the world celebrates love, Madhubala longed for love throughout her life. The actress, whose beauty still fascinates everyone, was one of the most admired actresses of her time. Madhubala's magnetic and blissful reel life was miles apart from her real tragic life. Her incomplete love for Dilip Kumar is still considered one of the biggest pains of Madhubala’s life.
However, very few people are aware of the fact that Madhubala dated actor, Prem Nath before falling in love with Dilip Kumar, also known as the tragedy king of Bollywood. In an interview with ETimes, Madhubala’s sister, Madhur Bhushan revealed the same and stated that she broke up with him because of her father. Talking about the same, Madhur Bhushan stated:
“But in those days, Hindus and Muslims weren't getting married. Today, times have changed. My father objected to their relationship, saying that he was answerable to the family.”

On the basis of religious grounds, Madhubala broke up with Prem Nath, however, it was not difficult for her. In the same interview, Madhur revealed how Madhubala dealt with the breakup and said:
“It wasn't difficult for her. It was a short-lived relationship. Both wanted to pursue their career. It was like boy meets girl and they start dreaming about a future together.”
The actress, who ruled every heart back then with her winsome smile, was an enchantress. Madhubla and Prem Nath’s relationship lasted for six months. As her father was not happy with their relationship, the final nail in the coffin struck when Prem Nath asked Madhubala to convert, resulting in the two parting ways.

After her breakup with Prem Nath, Madhubala found love in the arms of Dilip Kumar. She first met Dilip Kumar on the sets of Tarana (1951) and from there started the most talked about romance in the Indian film industry. The two had dated for nine long years and had also exchanged rings with each other. However, it was because of Madhubala’s father, Ataullah Khan, that she could never marry the love of her life, Dilip Kumar.
As per reports, it was the court case during the making of Naya Daur that added fuel to the already rising tension between Madhubala’s father and Dilip Kumar. Dilip Kumar testified for BR Chopra against Madhubala and her father in the Naya Daur court case, resulting in a bitter breakup between Madhubala and Dilip Kumar.
Do you know that during the making of the iconic film, Mughal-e-Azam, Madhubala and Dilip Kumar were not even on talking terms? Who would have believed that the iconic love story of Hindi cinema was made during the time when the lead actors didn’t want to see each other? In his autobiography, Dilip Kumar talked about his breakup with Madhubala and penned:
"Matters began to sour between us, thanks to her father's attempt to make the proposed marriage a business venture. The outcome was that half way through the production of Mughal-e-Azam, we were not even talking to each other. The classic scene with the feather coming between our lips, which set a million imaginations on fire, was shot when we had completely stopped even greeting each other."
February 14, 2023, marks the 90th birth anniversary of the doe-eyed beauty Madhubala, whose charm is still incomparable.
