Vijay Antony, as a popular face in the Tamil film industry, has donned a lot of hats in his professional career. Apart from being an actor, he is a music composer, playback singer, lyricist, filmmaker, audio engineer and more. Recently, Vijay Antony grabbed a lot of headlines with his commercially hit film, Maargan, which has been released on OTT. However, the actor once encountered a huge loss in his life, which made him forego wearing footwear ever.
Vijay Antony is married to Fatima Vijay Antony and they had two daughters, Meera and Lara. Unfortunately, their oldest daughter, Meera, allegedly died by suicide at the mere age of 16 years old on September 19, 2023. The whole family was devastated by this loss. Additionally, for all the films produced by Vijay Antony's Film Corporation, he always credited his wife, Fatima, as the producer. However, for his film, Romeo, which was the first film released after Meera's death, he paid tribute to his eldest daughter and credited her as the producer.
Vijay Milton, director of the film, Mazhai Pidikkatha Manithan, which also starred Vijay Antony in the lead, discussed the latter's spiritual decision to forego wearing footwear after losing his daughter. The director revealed that Vijay Antony tried to immerse himself in a lot of work to cope with Meera's death. However, the actor still struggles to come to terms with the tragic loss, Vijay Milton said. Hence, the actor chose not to wear footwear ever, which highlights how deeply Meera's death affected him. Director, Vijay Milton was quoted as saying:
“I have known Vijay Antony for over 20 years, but in the last two years, I've been particularly close to him as he navigated some of the toughest times of his life. During the making of 'Pichaikkaran 2,' he suffered a significant injury, and shortly thereafter, he lost his daughter Meera. Despite his efforts to immerse himself in his work to cope with the loss, it seems he still struggles to come to terms with it. His decision to go without footwear may be a reflection of the profound impact Meera’s loss has had on him.”
A few days after going through the unimaginable pain of losing his daughter, Vijay Antony took to his Instagram handle and posted a note written in Tamil announcing Meera's demise. In the poignant note, the actor stated that his daughter is now in 'a better and peaceful place where there won’t be caste, creed, money, jealousy, pain'. Vijay Antony also said that his daughter is still talking to him and that he will try to do good things on her behalf. The actor had penned down:
“My daughter Meera is such an affectionate and brave girl. She is now in a better and peaceful place where there won’t be caste, creed, money, jealousy, pain. She is still talking to me. I died with her. I have now started spending time for her. I will now do good things on her behalf.”
