'Maa' Trailer, Kajol Takes On The 'Shaitaan' To Save Her Daughter From A Horrifying Demonic Curse

Kajol is all set to enter the horror universe with her upcoming film, Maa. While the theme and director remain the same as for Nushrratt Bharuccha's Chhori and Chhori 2, the film will be more focused on Maa. However, the makers have also assured the fans that the Kajol starrer will be an entirely different experience. 

Maa's team pays respect to their mothers 

Additionally, the team paid respect to their respective mothers by adding their mothers' names to their own names in the film, Maa's trailer. Ajay was introduced as Ajay Veena Devgn, and the director of the film, Vishal, was called on stage as Vishal Revanti Furia. These additions were also noticed in the names of actors, including Kajol, Ronit Roy, and Indraneil Sen Gupta, among others, adding a sweet touch to the trailer's launch event.

Maa trailer portrays how a mother single-handledly fights off evil to save her daughter

Kajol's Maa trailer was officially dropped on May 29, 2025, and gave the audience a glimpse into the 'world of Shaitaan'. The film revolves around a mother who single-handedly fights the supernatural to save her daughter. The concept, while similar to that of Chhori, still manages to keep an element of surprise. The two-minute video starts with a petrified Kajol driving her daughter away from a dangerous place, only to land somewhere more dangerous.

While the term, Maa is supposed to provide comfort and is usually depicted in a warm and loving light, Vishal Revanti Furia's attempt at Bollywood's most favourite word, Maa, reflects in a more grim light. However, some viewers also found the word to be a little overused in the trailer, with almost every dialogue repeating the word at least once. The repetitive use in the trailer is in places like when Kajol's daughter says, "Maa, pet mein dard ho raha hai." or "Maa, aur kitna time." it seemed unnecessary. However, whether or not it was intentional, will only be revealed when the film is released. 

However, the simple conversation, changes into something terrifying when a girl, suddenly jumps onto the car. The mother-daughter duo then arrives at the hotel, and Kajol warns her daughter, 'Shweta', that it is an unknown place and that she should not wander off without telling her mother. Nonetheless, the daughter goes off to a place where a demon lives, starting the journey of thrills and chills in the movie. Like Chhori or any other horror film, this too relies on an old legend. In Maa this legend is of a Daitya who feeds on girls' blood. The trailer ends with a powerful dialogue by Kajol stating:

"Jab tak teri maa tere sath hai, tera koi kuch nahi bigaad sakta."

Netizens react to the trailer

The trailer has attracted several reactions from fans, praising the makers with some even noticing the additions in the cast's names. A user wrote, "Someone noticed, every member of the movie, be it the actor, producer, director, or an other member, all the names are written with their mother name, like Ajay Veena Devgn. Love the concept of tributing all the mothers." Another penned, "Omg this trailer looks so powerful! I'm can't wait!!" A comment read, "The Queen of Queens is back again and looking as beautiful as ever! Maa looks so promising. Can't wait to see kajol onscreen again!"
