Lizzo is one of the most renowned American singers, rappers, and songwriters we have seen in recent years. Lizzo's career began back in 2011, and in 2013, she released her debut album, Lizzobangers. However, her career breakthrough came years later, in 2019, when she released Juice, the lead single from her third studio album, Coz I Love You. Lizzo dropped her fourth album, Special, in 2022, and now fans have been thinking that it is About Damn Time she dropped some new music. Well, it seems Lizzo has finally listened to her fans' wishes as she just dropped a new music video for her single, Don't Make Me Love U where she seemingly strips down.
Lizzo released her new music video for the song, Don't Make Me Love U on Friday, March 20, 2026. It is worth noting that she did perform the song prior to the MV's release, last year, on Saturday Night Live in April 2025. What's most striking about her music video is that it features both Lizzo's present-day self, with her short blonde hair, and her past self. While one of them is Lizzo, the other is her alter ego, 'Lizzy'.

In the video, both of them can be seen sitting together at the dinner table and standing face-to-face, hugging each other. In case you missed it, Lizzo hugging her past self is essentially the recreation of the cover art for her 2019 album, Cuz I Love You. According to a press release, the video “gives a surreal and visually striking look into a familiar relationship of grappling with your past self, reflecting and eventually evolving through learning and growth.”

According to reports, Don't Make Me Love U is an ‘80s R&B-inspired song that kicks off a new musical era for Lizzo. Lizzo herself opened up about Don't Make Me Love U in a February 2026 appearance on the Jennifer Hudson Show. She said:
“I think on first listen, you think the song is about romantic love, but really the song is a complicated relationship I have with people in my life. Don’t make me love you, don’t waste my time, bi*ch. That’s what the song is about. There’s a lot of new music, you guys, I’m so excited to share. But that’s all I can say for now.”

Prior to the single, Don't Make Me Love U’s release, Lizzo had already revealed that her fifth upcoming album, Love in Real Life, was done recording last year, in 2025. Fans have high expectations for Love in Real Life, as it comes on the heels of her fourth studio album, Special, released in 2022. For the unversed, Lizzo's hit song, About Damn Time from the album even won her a Record of the Year award at the Grammys.

It is also worth noting that Love In Real Life, apart from being Lizzo's first studio album, is also the first that she will release following allegations of sexual harassment in the workplace, which were made against her by former employers. Despite the seriousness of the accusations, Lizzo has maintained her innocence from the start. For instance, while talking to Keke Palmer on her podcast, Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, Lizzo claimed that she “did nothing wrong” and that she was “blindsided” by the lawsuit. She further stated:
"I was very deeply hurt because these were three ex-dancers, so they weren't on the tour. They didn't, like, finish the tour out with us. But even regardless of that, these were people that I gave opportunities to.”
