Recently, actress and advocate Kunika Sadanand Lal opened up about her short-lived affair with Kumar and revealed some shocking details.
Kunika Sadanand Lal recently sat down for a candid chat with Siddharth Kannan, during which she reflected on her short flip with Kumar Sanu in the 1990s. The actress recalled her first meeting with the singer, sharing that it occurred while shooting in Ooty. These were the early years of her career, and she was still trying to find her place in the industry. While Kunika was busy with work, Kumar was in Ooty for a vacation with his sister and nephew. After that chance first meeting, Kunika and Kumar developed a close bond.
Kunika further revealed that Kumar Sanu had been going through a challenging time in his personal life. In fact, the Ashiqui singer had even tried to end his life by jumping out of a hotel window once while drunk. However, those around him at the time, including Kunika, were able to bring him down from the window ledge and hold him as he cried out his pain. Kunika stated that this heart-wrenching incident had brought her and Kumar closer.
Further in the interview, Kunika Sadanand Lal revealed that following Kumar Sanu's attempt to end his own life, he started living separately from his then-wife, Rita Bhattacharya. Over the five years that they were in touch, Kunika and Kumar shared a strong bond, with her even motivating him to focus on his fitness and fashion while he was at his peak. She elaborated:
"I was like a wife to him. I considered him my husband."
However, problems arose in Kunika and Kumar's bond when the latter's then-wife, Rita, became angry. The Andaaz actress claimed Rita was furious because there was a delay in the payment of the child support she was owed. So, in a fit of rage, Rita smashed Kunika's car with a hockey stick. "His wife smashed my car with a hockey stick. She would come outside my house and scream. But I understood her. She wanted money for her children; she wasn't wrong. She said she didn't want him back."
Although Kunika and Kumar shared a strong bond, their relationship wasn't meant to last long. After dating for a rather short period, the duo decided to part ways.
Kunika Sadanand Lal's revelations about her relationship with Kumar Sanu, as well as her inspirational journey, moved many netizens to praise the actress for her raw honesty. They were also impressed by her 'inner work,' stating that it was evident in the way she spoke and handled herself now. Kunika Sadanand Lal and Rita Bhattacharya were by no means the only women in Kumar Sanu’s life. The singer also had a passionate affair with actress Meenakshi Seshadri. However, eventually, Kumar would tie the knot with Saloni Bhattacharya, who has been his wife for over 20 years now. The happy couple was blessed with two daughters, Shannon and Ana.
