Kriti Sanon is one of the most popular actresses in the Hindi film industry. She made her Bollywood debut in 2014 with the film, Heropanti, co-starring Tiger Shroff. However, the actress shared how gender bias is prevalent in the industry and also called out those who give more importance to male actors. In a recent interview, she also shared how she was brought up by her parents. She shed light on how some assistant directors call female actors early on sets, but later wait for male actors.
In a candid conversation with NDTV, Kriti shared how her childhood played a key role in shaping her mindset. Both her parents are working professionals and have always divided responsibilities. So, for Kriti and her sister, Nupur Sanon, gender was never a limitation or restriction at home. Kriti mentioned that when her mother was young, society took things in a different way, and thus she wanted her daughters to have the freedom to do what they wanted. She was quoted as saying:
"My mom grew up in a time when boys were allowed a lot of things that girls were not. Girls were supposed to stay at home, cook, and follow rules. She wanted to learn swimming or dancing, but couldn't. The only thing she fought for was studying, and she became a professor. Her first thought for me and my sister was, 'Do whatever you want to. Whatever you dream of, go for it.' That came from her."
In the same conversation, Kriti highlighted that while her childhood was free from any kind of bias, the film industry made her face small but unfair differences. She shared how male actors are given better cars and better rooms. She mentioned it was never about getting better cars, but an equal treatment for both female and male actors. She also mentioned how some assistant directors give female actors early call time and later wait for the male actors. In her words:
"It hasn't happened too many times, but little things like the male actor getting a better car or a better room... It's not about the car, but about not making me feel smaller because I'm a woman. Just make it equal. Sometimes, even ADs have a habit of calling the female actor first and waiting for the male actor later. I've had to tell them not to do that. The mindset needs to change"
Kriti Sanon will be next seen in the movie, Tere Ishk Mein, opposite South Indian actor, Dhanush. The film is set for release on November 28, 2025. She will be playing the role of 'Mukti', while Dhanush will portray 'Shankar'. She has teamed up with Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna for the movie, Cocktail 2. Kriti will appear in the movie, Bhediya 2.
Although no official confirmation of her presence has been made, it is speculated that she might appear in a cameo role. Next, she has Don 3 in the pipeline. After much speculation, Kriti has been confirmed as the female lead and will be seen opposite Ranveer Singh. Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya will be returning with a sequel.
