Konkona Sen Sharma is one of the most popular actresses who works predominantly in Hindi and Bengali films. Besides being a phenomenal actor, she also has another recognition. She is the daughter of ace filmmaker, Aparna Sen. The mother-daughter duo collaborated in many projects, including Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, Goynar Baksho, The Rapist and more. They also shared screen space in films like Titli and Iti Mrilani. However, recently, Konkona shared her take on the most controversial topic in the film industry, nepotism. The Metro In Dino actress also revealed that she never planned to be an actress, but the script of Mr. and Mrs. Iyer made her change her perspective.

Konkona Sen Sharma shares her candid take on nepotism

Konkona recently sat for an interview with Zoom, and had the most heartfelt conversation by sharing her candid views on the most talked-about topic, nepotism in the film industry. The Life in a… Metro actress shared that she never dreamed of becoming an actress, it's all serendipity. She also revealed that there were many privileges, and she was lucky that she could make her place in the industry. In her words:

"Today, I realise it was a dream to work with my mother. In terms of nepotism, which is such a hot topic now, yes, I have had the best kind of nepotism in a way. I have had so much privilege and so much luck that it wasn’t that I wanted to become an actor. I didn’t. My mother had no plans to launch me."

Further in the interview, Konkona shared that she was often excluded from the nepotism debate by the people, but she thinks that it exists in every field. However, the actress thinks it is unfair. She also shared how she bagged the role for the film, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer. For the uninitiated, the 2002 English film, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, was the breakthrough movie of Konkona and was directed by her mother, Aparna Sen. The film also starred Rahul Bose, Anjan Dutta, Bharat Kaul and more. Sharing how she was selected by her mother, Aparna, for the 2002 English film, Konkona said:

"My mother was writing Mr. and Mrs. Iyer on her desktop, and it used to be in my room. She would read it aloud to me, and it was all from my expressions that she felt I should play this part. A lot of the time, I don’t get dragged into this nepotism. Do I think it is unfair? Yes, it is unfair, but it happens everywhere. I would always like to acknowledge my luck and privilege in this situation that I got to do Mr. and Mrs. Iyer as my third film."
