Harry Potter is not just one of the most loved film franchises but it is also one of the highest grossing films earning around Rs. 50,000 crore worldwide. When the franchise started, the actors, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were very young and so were their bank accounts. Gradually, as the series became popular, the earnings and career of the actors also grew.
This article shows how the payment of these actors grew with time. Actors who started with small amounts ended with multi-million rupees deals by their last film. This graph not just shows how the actors evolved but it also shows how the series, Harry Potter became big and popular globally.
Daniel Radcliffe, who played the role of 'Harry Potter', started as a child actor at the age of 11. For the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, he got paid around Rs. 85 lakh, which was quite a lot for a 11 year old child. As the film started gaining popularity, his payment started increasing.
For the second film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, he got Rs. 2.56 crore, which gradually started increasing and for the last two films of the franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 and Part 2, he got paid a huge amount of Rs. 415 crore. His rising salary shows how his role as 'Harry Potter' turned him into a global star and one of the highest-paid young actors of his time.
Rupert Grint, who played the role of 'Ron Weasley', had his salary graph very similar to Emma Watson. He started off with less than Rs. 85 lakh for the first film. By the fifth film, which was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Rupert started earning Rs. 33 crore and for the last film, he got an amount of Rs. 128 crore, similar to Emma Watson. Post-Harry Potter, he has mostly taken on smaller projects, including TV shows like Servant on Apple TV+. Even after not chasing blockbuster roles, he remains financially comfortable thanks to his earnings from the Harry Potter films.
While the main lead earned the maximum, the supporting cast also earned pretty well. Tom Felton, who played the role of 'Draco Malfoy', reportedly earned close to Rs. 150 crore across the eight films. The late Alan Rickman, who played the role of 'Severus Snape', had a net worth of about Rs. 132 crore at the time of his passing, largely due to his work in the series.
However, it's interesting to know that background extras, including many young Hogwarts students, were paid quite less. Reportedly, they were paid around Rs. 3,700 per day, which was in contrast to the millions made by the lead cast.
