Kirron Kher Opens Up About Her Cancer Battles, Says, 'Treatment Was Harder Than The Illness Itself'

Kirron Kher is an Indian actress who has dominated the television and film industry equally. Not just this, she is also an esteemed politician, singer, and entertainment producer. She has seen her share of ups and downs and is currently focusing solely on being a judge in the television show, India’s Got Talent. The actress has not appeared in any movie since she got diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, in 2020. In a recent interview, the actress talked about the same and shared how she fought the battle.

Kirron Kher’s battle with cancer

Kirron, who is currently residing in her hometown, Chandigarh, recently shared insights into her battle with multiple myeloma, in an interview with News18. The actress never gave up on her career, and she continued her role in India’s Got Talent, as she has a different kind of attachment to the show. However, she discontinued her other projects, including films.

As Kirron Kher shared how she felt during the tough times and how she fought the battle, she said that she had no choice but to give the green light to the treatment. Stating that all her fears came true, she reflected that the first six to eight months were very tough. In her words:

“Everyone fears that one day something like this might happen. But when it does, there’s no choice but to accept it. The treatment, with all its side effects, was harder than the illness itself. The first six to eight months were very tough, but you leave it in the hands of the Lord. I’ve always believed, even when fighting elections, that this is not my fight, the Lord fights for me.”

Kirron Kher says that the battle is not over yet

Although, after the brutal treatment, the actress has shown signs of betterment, she has not fully recovered yet. Kirron Kher believes in God so much that she thinks people are never in control of their lives, and it’s the divine that truly manages the course of events. She also added that her battle with cancer is not entirely over, and she is still getting the treatment. She said:

“They don’t even say you’ve beaten it. They continue the treatment. They give it at longer intervals, but the treatment goes on for years.”

Kirron Kher’s professional front

Kirron Kher made her acting debut with a Punjabi film, Aasra Pyar Da, in 1983. She then took a break from acting till 1996, during which she only appeared in a short role in the film, Pestonjee, alongside her second husband, Anupam Kher. When the actress returned to acting, she starred in several films such as Devdas, Karz: The Burden Of Truth, Main Hoon Na, Hum Tum, Veer-Zaara, Rang De Basanti, Om Shanti Om, and many more. She has often played the role of a mother on screen, who is also known for comedy-drama acting. Simultaneously, she also joined the BJP in 2009, kickstarting her political career.
