Karisma Kapoor's High-Profiled Divorce From Sunjay Kapur, Here's The Whopping Alimony She Received

Karisma Kapoor is leading the headlines currently after reports claimed that the Raja Hindustani actress demanded a share in her ex-husband's Rs. 31,000 crore business, Sona Comstar. For the unversed, it was on June 12, 2025, when Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, Sunjay Kapur, passed away after suffering from cardiac arrest.

However, after a month of the businessman’s demise, his family is garnering the spotlight as his mother, Rani Kapur, raised suspicion and foul play in Sunjay’s death. In a letter, Sunjay’s mom revealed that she has been denied access to all of her existing accounts, and she has been living on mercy. After Sunjay's demise, his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, was recently appointed as the non-executive director of the firm.

Rani Kapur also made a shocking claim by mentioning that she was forced to sign papers behind locked doors. Amid Sunjay’s family came into the limelight over an alleged feud over a financial dispute, his ex-wife, Karisma, too reportedly demanded her rights. Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur had an ugly divorce battle

Karisma tied the knot with Delhi-based businessman, Sunjay Kapur in 2003. The alliance was set up by Karisma’s mother, Babita Shivdasani. The wedding garnered huge attention as it was one of the most lavish events of the year. While it appeared to be a happy marriage, Karisma and Sunjay shocked everyone when they filed for divorce in 2014, with mutual consent.

Their divorce battle turned ugly when Karisma claimed that Sunjay was not financially ready to support her. She accused Sunjay of domestic violence, and to counter Karisma’s accusations, Sunjay revealed that the actress married him for his money. He also accused Karisma of marrying him to get over her broken engagement with Abhishek Bachchan.

Karisma Kapoor received a whopping alimony from Sunjay Kapur after their divorce

A lot of mudslinging and accusations marked Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur’s divorce. After a lot of drama, Karisma and Sunjay decided to resolve the matter amicably, and the couple was granted a divorce in 2016. After the divorce, Karisma received a hefty amount as alimony. As per a report in Mid-Day:

“Karisma will get Sunjay's father's house (in Khar) transferred in her name. Sunjay has to purchase bonds worth Rs. 14 crore for the children, which will attract a monthly interest of around Rs. 10 lakh."

In a recent conversation with Vicky Lalwani, filmmaker Suneel Darshan talked about his good friend, Karisma Kapoor and her tumultuous marriage to Sunjay Kapur. As per Suneel, Sunjay Kapur’s extravagant lifestyle had transformed Karisma into a trophy wife rather than the partner she had envisioned. Talking about the same, he said:

“She wanted to be a domesticated wife… She wasn’t the kind who wanted to go play golf on a Saturday. She wanted to spend time at home… I think that was where the problem came. That’s what I heard. She was placed into a world which was not hers. Delhi has its own culture, and she wasn’t fitting into it… she was in this palatial house with endless cars… and it just wasn’t her world.”

What led to Sunjay Kapur’s death?

It was on June 12, 2025, when Sunjay passed away in the UK while playing Polo. According to an India Today report, Sunjay fell on the ground while playing and swallowed a bee. The bee stung his throat, due to which he had a heart attack. When the official statement was released, it was revealed that Sunjay had passed away due to a heart attack. His last rites took place in Delhi, and it was Karisma who stood by Sunjay’s family during the time of grief.
