Today, May 2, 2025, is Day-Two of the first-ever World Audio, Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in India. The day witnessed a heartwarming cross-cultural moment when Kareena Kapoor Khan shared how legendary Hollywood director, Steven Spielberg, once recognised her and approached her at a restaurant to personally praise her for her work in Rajkumar Hirani’s 2009 masterpiece, 3 Idiots.
During a panel session titled ‘Cinema: The Soft Power’, moderated by Karan Johar and featuring Telugu heartthrob, Vijay Deverakonda, Kareena Kapoor Khan shared a memorable encounter with Steven Spielberg, which happened during an international trip shortly after the premiere of 3 Idiots. While dining at a restaurant, the legendary filmmaker, seated nearby, walked up to her and asked if she was the ‘girl from that very famous Indian film about the three students’. Bebo shared:
"Steven (Spielberg) was eating at the same restaurant. This was many years ago—3 Idiots had just been released. He actually came up to me and said, 'You're the girl from that very famous Indian film about the three students.' I said, 'Yes, that's me.' And he said, 'My God, I love that movie!' So, you know, I didn’t have to act in an English film for him to have seen 3 Idiots. That, I think, was a special moment for us."
During the same session, Karan asked Kareena if she had ever considered acting in Hollywood. She candidly shared that she never felt the need to pursue it and has never been one to chase opportunities. However, she added that she wouldn’t rule it out completely. Kareena was quoted as saying:
“I think it’s just organically not happened. Having said that, films are my passion - they run in my veins. I was born into this family. Times are changing, and you never know. Chasing something has never been a part of my personality, but if it’s meant to happen, maybe a Hindi-English film will come along. After all, even Spielberg is watching our movies!”
For her appearance at Day 2 of the summit, Kareena kept it classy and minimal. The actress exuded timeless elegance in a beautiful navy blue chiffon saree featuring vibrant floral prints. The sheer fabric added a fresh touch to her look, and beautifully balanced her ensemble with a pair of diamond studs, a classic leather-belt wrist watch, and a diamond ring. Subtle makeup with kohl-rimmed eyes, bronzed cheeks and nude lipsticks, with open hair added an elegant charm to her look. Sharing her look of the day on her IG, Kareena wrote:
"So honoured to be part of a panel discussion at the WAVES Summit, where India isn't just part of the global entertainment conversation, we're driving it. India is fast emerging as a superpower in the global entertainment industry, and this is the beginning of a creative movement that will define the future. "
What do you think about Kareena Kapoor’s recollection of her chance encounter with Steven Spielberg?
