The teaser of the upcoming Bollywood movie, War 2, has taken social media by storm. The film is directed by Ayan Mukerji of Bramhastra fame, and stars two actors who are at the top of their game in their respective film industries. Hrithik Roshan, who has won many hearts with his decades-long iconic Bollywood performances, is back to reprise his role as 'Major Kabir' in the sequel of War.
However, the surprise for all cinema lovers is the introduction of Telugu superstar, N.T. Rama Rao Jr, aka Jr. NTR, into the spy universe of YRF productions. The actor is known as the 'Star of the masses' and has given numerous pan-Indian hits. Amid the chatter around his Hindi film debut with War 2, Jr. NTR revealed the differences that he has noticed in the South Indian film industry and Bollywood.
Jr. NTR will make his Bollywood debut with War 2. Meanwhile, he has produced and acted in around thirty Tollywood films. The Telugu superstar, in a Netflix interview of 2024, had talked about his role in the upcoming Hindi film. He revealed in the interview that director, Ayan Mukerji loves preparing and organising everything before shooting. However, Jr. NTR described himself as an 'instinctive' actor. The actor and director had very opposite approaches to bring out emotions while acting. Talking about their different ways of acting, Jr. NTR said:
"Ayan didn't know what was going to come. Because he was trying to bring it out of me. Ki ye kaise aane wala hai. I was like, ‘Ayan, I am very instinctive. Aa jayega! Kuch na kuch aa jayega!’ Ayan was like, ‘Kuch na kuch?’ He loves prep, and I am completely the opposite. Adi (producer, Aditya Chopra) was there in between and he went, ‘It is okay, I get it!’”
Jr. NTR said in the interview that he believed in spot development. He asked a rhetorical question about when an actor goes and gives more than what is written in the script, will the director take that or not? The Telugu star is a firm believer in improvisation in acting and said that he thinks too much prep doesn't give actors a chance to explore themselves. He believed that was what made them more instinctive in their acting. Too much prep was what Jr. NTR experienced while working in Hindi cinema for the first time.
Describing the difference between Bollywood and South Indian film sets, Jr. NTR said that there is prepping while working in the latter. They have always been organised but in a chaotic way. Even if there were a shooting of a serious sequence for the next day, everybody would be chill. People would be working on the film until the very last minute. As per the actor's opinion, this chaos helps to bring out more organisation. In the interview, Jr. NTR talked about South Indian film sets and stated:
"South Indian films have always been chaotically organised. Like, if the prints have to go tomorrow, the team will still ask for one extra hour because they want to make some changes in the edit. The clock is ticking, the prints have to be delivered, but you’re still working on the film. You are shooting for a crazy sequence tomorrow, but everybody is so chill, we are not prepping at all. We know what needs to be done.
