Joseph Duggar Could Face Life Sentence In Child Molestation Case, His Brother Feels 'Disgusted'

The former reality TV star from TLC's 19 Kids and Counting, Joseph Duggar, is leading the headlines for all the wrong reasons. A few days back, Joseph was arrested on March 18, 2026, on charges of inappropriate sexual advances towards a minor during a 2020 family vacation. The victim was only nine years old during that time.

Joseph Duggar’s brother revealed feeling ‘disgusted’ after his arrest

Joseph’s brother, Jason Duggar, recently spoke about his brother’s arrest as he shared a statement on Instagram. Jason revealed feeling disgusted with the news about his brother and also pointed towards the condition of the victim, whose life was turned upside down. Elaborating on the same, he said:

“We, like many, have spent the week completely shocked, confused, and grieved to list a few emotions. We are disgusted to hear the news about my brother, however, this isn't about how it's impacted our lives. Our hearts are burdened because a child's life has been turned upside down due to evil actions of someone who should have never hurt the vulnerable. This is something unthinkable.”

Joseph Duggar’s brother, Jason, sought prayers for the former’s children

After the heinous crime came to light, Jason was also worried about Joseph’s kids, who are undergoing the ordeal of seeing their father as a convict. In his statement, Jason sought prayers not just for the victim but also for Joseph’s children, who are also at the receiving end because of the heinous crimes of their father. In his words:

“We also ask that you pray for his family at this time, as his children must face the reality of losing a father that should have been a spiritual leader in their lives.”

Joseph Duggar might face a life in prison

Joseph Duggar has been charged with crimes, including inappropriate sexual behaviour involving a child under 12 and similar behaviour with an adult over 18. As per senior attorney, Rachael Bennett, Joseph's trial will take place in Florida. According to Rachael, if Jason is convicted in Florida, the specific charges against him could result in life imprisonment. And if a life sentence isn't given, Florida law would give a 'split sentence,' which requires a minimum of 25 years in prison followed by lifetime probation.

Joseph Duggar, 31, was arrested on charges of inappropriate sexual advances towards a minor during a 2020 family vacation, when the victim was allegedly only nine years old. The incident allegedly took place during a 2020 vacation, when the then nine-year-old visited Panama City Beach with her family. Joseph, then 25, too, was there as one of the guests.

The minor told investigators that her interactions with Joseph started casually, but it later became inappropriate, and she reportedly felt uncomfortable with his approach towards her. According to the affidavit, Joseph reportedly asked her to "sit on his lap, numerous times". The situation turned worse when Joseph started making more inappropriate advances towards the minor. She also revealed that Joseph started asking her to "sit on the couch beside him" and then "covered the parties with a blanket," before pulling her dress up and touching her inappropriately.”
