Jesus Montero, the former Major League Baseball player, has tragically passed away at the age of 35. He was one of the best prospects when he was signed by the New York Yankees in 2006. Jesus also established his name as a fan-favourite catcher when he joined the Seattle Mariners around 2012. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the nation, with people pouring out condolences for his family. But how did Jesus Montero pass away? Here's what we know. 

Jesus Montero's cause of death: The former MLB player passed away in Venezuela 

Jesus Montero was born in Guacara, Venezuela. As per reports, the former Yankees prospect passed away in his home country at the age of 35. In an official statement, the New York Yankees announced that Jesus Montero had died on October 19, 2025. Reports say that Jesus had collided with a pick-up truck while he was on his motorcycle. This accident had resulted in grievous injuries. The Yankees' statement announcing his death read:

"The Yankees are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jesús Montero. We send our sincerest condolences to his family & loved ones."

As per a New York Post report, Jesus had met with an accident earlier this month. Relatives had set up a GoFundMe page on behalf of the former baseball player to cover his medical bills. Jesus had been comatose for a few weeks, and treatment was going on. However, he tragically passed away from his severe traumatic injuries. Mariners player, Justin Hollander, also expressed his condolences and wrote:

"Our thoughts are with Jesús' family and friends during this difficult time."

Jesus Montero's wife and children 

Jesus Montero shared two children with Venezuelan fitness model, Taneth Gimenez. A daughter, Loren, and a son, Jesus Jr., were born in 2014 and 2015. As per reports, both of his children have been diagnosed with autism. Apart from this, other information about his personal life has been kept private.

Tributes pour after Jesus Montero's death 

After the untimely death of the former baseball star, tributes and homages have been paid to Jesus, recalling his time on the field. Rick Rizzs, the broadcaster of the Mariners, wrote on his X account, "Jesús was a joy to watch, a young man with raw power and a big heart. Gone far too soon.” Meanwhile, the MLB issued a statement that said:

"We join the baseball community in mourning the passing of former Major League player Jesús Montero. As a Minor League prospect, Montero appeared in the All-Star Futures game twice before debuting for the New York Yankees in September 2011. He posted a .996 OPS with 4 home runs and 12 RBI in 18 games and helped New York win the AL East Division title."

Jesus Montero's professional life 

Jesus Montero had been considered one of the best prospects after the Yankees signed him. He had shown a lot of potential on the field. However, the Yankees then traded Jesus to the Mariners in exchange for Michael Pinada. Jesus' performance remained inconsistent in this team, and he played for the MLB for the last time in 2015. However, after leaving MLB, Jesus continued to play for Venezuela's winter league. Then he took a step back from the field and started providing coaching and mentorship instead.
