Javier Bardem And Penelope Cruz's Love Story, Meant To Be Together, Started Dating Years Later

Among the list of power couples who have stayed strong for years, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz's names top charts. Not only have they warmed hearts with their sweet moments, but both of them have also established their names as highly acclaimed actors. 

Penelope and Javier are among the few married couples who have been nominated for the Oscar in the same year. However, even with their relationship being a subject of curiosity, the couple has successfully kept their personal life private. Here's a look at the mean-to-be love story of Penelope and Javier. 

Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz met when she was just 16 

Both Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz are Spaniards and have starred in many movies of their native film industry. In fact, the actress made her debut in the 1992 Spanish film, Jamón Jamón. Javier was also part of the film, and it was on the sets of this film that the two first met. However, Penelope was only 16 at the time, and Javier kept his distance despite the chemistry between them. To note, Jamon Jamon was considered a provocative movie at the time. In an interview with GQ UK, Javier talked about the nature of the film and his chemistry with Penelope and shared:

“There was obvious chemistry between us, I mean, it’s all there on film; it’s like a document of our passion. One day we’re going to have to show the kids – imagine! ‘Mummy, Daddy, what did you do in the movies together?’- ‘Well, my children, you should celebrate this movie as you’re here because of it!’ It was a very sexy film. It still is. Penelope’s parents were brave to allow her to do that film – if my daughter at 16 came to me with a script like that I’d have said no f***ing way!”

Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz started dating after their second film together 

Penelope Cruz's first public relationship was with Tom Cruise, whom she met on the sets of their film, Vanilla Sky, in 2001. However, after three years the relationship ended in 2004. She wasn't reported to be dating anyone else after that. Javier's love life had also been quite inconspicuous, and he wasn't linked up with anyone else either. The two destined lovers finally met for the second time in 2007 on the sets of their second film together, Vicky Cristina Barcelona. 

Dating rumours soon started following the two, however, they denied the rumours throughout the press tour of their movie. But despite their denial, paparazzi spot them together numerous times. In 2009, Penelope won an Oscar for Vicky Cristina Barcelona and also reportedly got engaged to Javier. But, the couple made their relationship official a year later at the Goya Awards, after three years of dating. In an interview with GQ, Javier talked about how he got together with Penelope and was quoted as saying:

"Neither of us would make the first move. I don’t know if we were shy or trying to be too professional. Anyway, it got to the very last day of filming and nothing had happened. So I thought, ‘F***! We better get drunk!’ Luckily a friend of ours threw a wrap party and, well, the rest is history. Thank god!"

Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz tied the knot in 2010, and welcomed to children 

After making their relationship official, Javier publicly spoke about Penelope for the first time at the 63rd Annual Cannes Film Festival. After winning an award, he thanked Penelope in his acceptance speech and said:

 "I share this joy with my friend, my companion, my love: Penelope. I owe you a lot and I love you so much."

The same year, in 2010, the couple tied the knot in the Bahamas in an intimate wedding. A year later, they welcome their son, Leo. Then in 2013, Javier and Peneloped were with their baby girl, Luna Encinas. The couple, along with their two children, have made a home for themselves in Madrid, Spain. However, they continue to work in both Spanish and American movies, while serving a couple of goals with their every public appearance together.
