Hollywood actress, Jane Fonda, who is well-known for movies like This Is Me...Now, Book Club: The Next Chapter, Stoner Cats, Moving On, Youth and more, recently spoke about her late friend, Robert Redford. For the unversed, the actor passed away in 2025, at the age of 89. At the 2026 Oscars, the Ordinary People director was paid tribute by actress, Barbra Streisand in the In Memoriam segment. However, is Jane Fonda upset with it? Well, she opened up about the same.
Recently, Jane Fonda had a candid conversation with Entertainment Tonight, during which she jokingly took a dig at Barbra Streisand giving a tribute to late actor, Robert Redford. During the conversation, the actress shared that she did four films with Robert and Brabra did only one, then why was she chosen to pay a tribute to him. According to People Magazine, she was quoted as saying:
"I want to know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford? She only made one movie with him, I made four! I have more to say. Was always in love with him. The most gorgeous human being and such great values. And he did a lot for movies, he really changed movies, lifted up independent movies."

For those who missed the 2026 Oscars, Barbra Streisand gave a heartwarming speech to pay a tribute to her late co-star, Robert Redford. The much talked-about actress revealed that she shared the screen space with Robert in the film, The Way We Were. Calling the late actor ‘brilliant and subtle’, Brabra shared, "He was a brilliant, subtle actor. And we had a wonderful time playing off each other because we never quite knew what the other one was going to do in the scene."

Minutes after Robert Redford tragically passed away in 2025, the two time Oscar-winning actress, Jane Fonda shared a heartfelt Instagram post for her best friend. In her note, she revealed that she couldn’t stop crying from the moment she heard the news of his demise. The actress further called Robert a beautiful person and shared that he meant a lot to her. The caption of her heartfelt post could be read as:
"It hit me hard this morning when I read that Bob was gone. I can’t stop crying. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way. He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for."

For the unversed, Jane and Robert's friendship was one of the most talked-about ones. Celebrities and fans alike loved and appreciated their strong bond on-screen and in real life. If reports are to be believed, the two first met in the late 1950s. Their first film together was Tall Story in which Robert had an uncredited role Later, they appeared in The Chase, Barefoot in the Park, The Electric Horseman and Our Souls at Night.

It is worth mentioning that over the years, both Jane and Robert have often spoken fondly about each other. Once, Jane Fonda jokingly shared that she had always been "a little in love with him" but nothing happened as both of them were married. She had also explained that it was tough for her to focus on acting because Robert was so handsome. Apart from her, the actor too once opened up about working with Jane and revealed:
"It's easy. We've done many films over the years so it just worked out that way, that there was not a lot of discussion, we didn't have to talk about a lot. Things just kind of fell into place between us, and there wasn't much more to think about."
