Ishaan Khatter is one of the most popular actors from the younger generations who has recently won hearts with his back-to-back stellar performances. From portraying the role of a charming yet flawed prince 'Aviraaj' in The Royals to embodying the struggle of 'Mohammed Shoaib Ali', a youngster who hails from a marginalised community in Homebound, the young actor is the talk of the town for his work. However, initially, Ishaan was commonly recognised as Shahid Kapoor's brother or was linked with his parents who also worked in showbiz. In a recent interview, Ishaan, who recently made his debut at the Cannes Film Festival recalled how he never tried to gain popularity through his brother.
Ishaan Khatter recently sat down for an interview with Zoom, and opened up about how he is focused on creating his path in the industry. He admitted that initially, people recognised him at his brother, Shahid Kapoor's wedding and was clicked at a more few places. In his words:
"When my brother got married, it was the first time that there was media and paparazzi. That thing had started to get blown up, along with social media. I was clicked, and after that, I was spotted and recognised at a few places."
Ishaan explained that Shahid's parents were actors, but he went on to be a full-fledged movie star and set the bar high. However, he doesn't intend to copy that or depend on his brother's fame. Instead, the 29-year-old wants to create his unique identity in the entertainment industry and would continue to patiently work to make that happen. Sharing how he is proud of Shahid, Ishaan said:
"His parents were working acting professionals but none of them were movie stars. I had an elder brother and he is a movie star, but it was never like I was trying to get in that or shine in his light or anything like that. He is my brother, and I'm proud I'm his brother and if I'm going to get clicked and recognised as his brother that's how people know me, obviously because I've not done anything out there for them to know me by."
In the same conversation, Ishaan Khatter shared that he worked as a child actor in Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! and as an assistant director for Udta Punjab. Yet, Shahid didn't realise his acting potential until he watched his debut film, Beyond The Clouds. Ishaan also mentioned his brother's compliment after his debut film screening would always be his favourite memory. Recalling the incident, he said:
"When the film finished, I turned around, and his body language was (relaxed). And then I went and sat next to him, and he just put his arm around me and said, 'Wow yaar, tu toh actor hai! Ab mujhe jhoot nahi bolna padega! It's my favourite memory."
For those unaware, Shahid Kapoor is the son of Neelima Azim and Pankaj Kapur. After their separation, she tied the knot with Rajesh Khattar and welcomed Ishaan. Shahid is 14 years older than The Royals actor. Consequently, in an interview with ETimes, Ishaan revealed Shahid has been more like a father figure to him due to their age difference. At the same time, he admitted that he had learnt a lot from his brother and never gave weight to any comparison between them.
