Ishaan Khatter proved that he is not just a shadow of his successful brother, Shahid Kapoor, with his debut film. The handsome actor, who is hailed for his dancing and on-screen presence, made his acting debut in Beyond The Clouds, directed by Majid Majidi and proved that acting is certainly in his genes. After a successful debut, Ishaan was paired opposite Janhvi Kapoor in the movie, Dhadak under Dharma Productions.
Although the film got mixed reviews, Ishaan and Janhvi’s on-screen chemistry was really appreciated. And now, Ishaan is garnering the limelight with his bare-chested glam in the Netflix show, The Royals. Ishaan, who plays the role of a young prince, ‘Aviraaaj Singh’ is hailed for his performance as a royal. Apart from Ishaan, the show also has a stellar cast including Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Chunky Panday, Milind Soman, and Dino Morea.
Born to Neliima Azeem and Rajesh Khatter, Ishaan is the stepbrother of actor, Shahid Kapoor. For the uninitiated, Ishaan’s mother, Neliima Azeem, was earlier married to ace actor, Pankaj Kapur and the couple became parents to Shahid. Ishaan was only five when his parents got divorced. He and Shahid were single-handedly raised by Neliima. Since childhood, Ishaan has been very protective towards his mother.
In a candid conversation with Rashmi Uchil for the book, Raising Stars, Neliima Azeem talked about raising her sons, Shahid Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, single-handedly. Neliima revealed that both her boys, Shahid and Ishaan, were very protective towards her from a young age. Recalling an incident, she said:
“I was performing in Belgium once, and a French guy kept following me around. Shahid was all of six then. He stood up to that guy and told him, ‘Before you talk to her, you will have to deal with me. That’s my mother.”
In the same interaction, Neliima also revealed that Ishaan was just three and a half, and he, too, reprimanded the guy for being aggressive with her. In her words:

“Ishaan was equally astute. He was only 3 and a half years old when a rather unpleasant incident took place. He told the person who was getting aggressive with me, ‘I am watching you. Should I call the police?’”
Neliima went through heartbreaks and became the breadwinner of the family. She successfully raised her sons and fulfilled all her duties along with her work. Neliima once said that sons of working mothers tend to become more responsible, sensitive and caring. In an interview with the Bombay Times, Ishaan talked about his mother’s separation and revealed:
“I was very young when my parents separated, and later, my mother remarried. For six years, I stayed with my stepfather (Ustad Raza Ali Khan) and my mother. Then, they separated and I saw her go through two broken marriages and her struggle to keep things together.”
Ishaan Khatter was raised in a middle-class household rich in culture and cinema. From a young age, he developed his skills to become an artist. After his education, he joined Shiamak Davar’s academy and made his first screen appearance in the 2005 film, Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi. Before making his full-fledged debut, Ishaan worked as an assistant director in films like Udta Punjab and Half Widow.
