He took her to the grounds daily and sometimes travelled for hours to ensure his sister got the right practice. Recalling his decision, Sumit said:
"I told my father, give me two years. If nothing happens, I'll go back to my job. But if it works, Deepti will play for India."

Sumit's belief finally paid off when Deepti made her international debut for India in 2014 at just 17 years old. Currently, the colony where Deepti grew up has her name, etched on it as 'Arjuna Awardee Cricketer Deepti Sharma Marg'.
