Indian actor, Diljit Dosanjh has been leading the headlines in 2025 for both positive and negative reasons. From making a dazzling debut at the Met Gala 2025 to landing up in hot water for his film, Sardaar Ji 3’s casting row involving Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir, Diljit is going through a lot. Amidst the controversy surrounding his film Sardaar Ji 3, reports emerged that the actor might be replaced in the upcoming film, Border 2, by Punjabi actor, Ammy Virk. In a recent conversation, Ammy’s team addressed the buzz surrounding the actor replacing Diljit.
Ever since the trailer of Sardaar Ji 3 surfaced on the internet, it's been making a lot of noise. In fact, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) publicly urged the makers of Border 2 to drop Diljit Dosanjh from the film. FWICE highlighted that it is totally unacceptable for the actor to appear in a patriotic film like Border 2, while he is working with Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. However, according to a report by Hindustan Times, the makers have no plan to drop Diljit, as 40 to 50 per cent of the shooting is already done and he was confirmed as a cast member nine months ago.
On the other hand, The Times of India gave a different angle to the story. They claimed that sources close to them have revealed that only a few scenes were shot, and thus, the actor can be dropped from the project. The sources also claimed that Diljit might get replaced by another Punjabi actor, Ammy Virk. However, in a recent conversation with Hindustan Times, a representative from Ammy’s team confirmed that these are all rumours and the actor was never contacted by the makers of Border 2. Addressing the same, the representative said:
"These are just speculations. We haven’t received any calls from anyone as of now."
Diljit Dosanjh has found himself in hot water after he was cast opposite Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. For the unversed, the film got released globally on June 27, 2025, except in India. Amidst the controversy, renowned filmmaker, Imtiaz Ali and famous screenwriter, Javed Akhtar came forward to support the actor. In a recent interview with NDTV, renowned filmmaker, Imtiaz, who earlier worked with Diljit in the Netflix film, Amar Singh Chamkila, defended the actor amid the row involving cross-border casting in the film, Sardaar Ji 3. The filmmaker praised the actor for his deshbhakti and called him ‘son of the soil’. He also shared how he respects India and pays respect to the country in all his concerts. In his words:
"I can't say much on the row, but since I know Diljit, I can say that uss mein deshbhakti ka jazbaa poora bhara hua hai. He is a son of the soil. You can see at all his concerts, he shows up with the Indian flag. Fakeness ke saath woh kuch nahi karta hai."
Meanwhile, famous screenwriter, Javed Akhtar also defended the actor. In an interview with NDTV’s Creators Manch, Javed said that as the actor shared screen with the Pakistani actress, Hania, long before the Pahalgam incident and thus not need to be blamed. He also said that the government and censor board should be a little sympathetic regarding the release of the film, Sardaar Ji 3 and leave the matter with an ultimatum. In his words:

"Ab kya karein bechara. The movie was shot earlier. Usko pata toh nahi tha ki aisa hoga. Usko pehle pata hota yeh hone wala hain, toh woh thodi na leta Pakistani actor. I think the government and the censor board should look at the situation with a little sympathy. And say that don't do this again, but since you made this film before, then release it. But it should not happen again."
