Actors, especially excellent actors, have this unique ability to bring a scripted character to life. From conveying emotions through eyes to delivering monologues with ease, late Irrfan Khan was one such actor, who had blurred the lines between reel and real with his stellar performances. He had even risen to global platforms and did movies like Slumdog Millionaire, Life Of Pi, Jurassic Park, etc. However, the whole world had come crashing down for his wife, Sutapa Sikdar, and sons, Babil Khan and Ayan Khan, when the iconic actor had lost his life to a neuroendocrine tumour in 2020.
Now, in a recent interview, Babil revealed that his mother, Sutapa had sacrificed her career to let Irrfan try his hands at acting. For the unversed, the duo had fallen in love during their days at the National School of Drama. She was learning the art of acting but wanted to pursue story and screenplay writing. By 1995, Irrfan and Sutapa had firmly established their roots in the entertainment industry and then had a simple court marriage.

In a candid conversation with GQ, Irrfan Khan's son Babil Khan, who is all set to make his debut with Qala opposite Bulbbul fame, Tripti Dimri revealed an unknown story about his father. While acknowledging his mother, Sutapa's sacrifices, Babil recalled how she had always ensured that his baba's work continued without interruption. However, Irrfan Khan never gave enough credit to Sutapa. Babil can be quoted as saying:
"She sacrificed her career to raise us and make sure Baba's work continued uninterrupted. And let me tell you, she's a very ambitious woman. It takes a lot to put your ambitions aside for your partner, for your children. It must've killed her to do it and yet she did. Baba was Baba because Mumma was Mumma. He'd be nothing without her. And I don't think she gets enough credit. Not even from Baba."
Further in the interview, Babil accepted that Irrfan had realised Sutapa's contribution to his success, but it was too late. He shared:
"It was only after his sickness that he acknowledged the scale of her contribution towards his success."

In an interview with the Bombay Times, Sutapa Sikdar had remembered her late husband, Irrfan Khan, on his 55th birth anniversary and had revealed the thing that she misses the most about him since his demise. The doting wife had told that out of all the things, it was her soul-to-soul conversation with her hubby, Irrfan, that she misses every single day. She had explained:
"In April this year, it will be two years since his passing, and not a single day goes by without us remembering him. What he truly cherished were soul-to-soul conversations, and I miss having those with him the most. Everything else can be compensated for. I have friends who are there for me, but with whom do I have those great conversations? My life is devoid of good conversations now. It's unbelievable for me to fathom a world without Irrfan."
On January 25, 2022, Sutapa Sikdar had taken to her IG handle and had mentioned the surprise that her sons, Babil Khan and Ayaan Khan, gave her on her birthday. She got emotional while writing. She had added that it must have been her loving husband, Irrfan, who might have whispered about her wishes in their sons' dreams as she couldn't find any other reason for this celebration. She had also mentioned how happy her late husband would be to see their kids showering love even after not liking birthday celebrations. Sutapa's caption could be read as:
"But yesterday Surprisingly Babil and Ayaan did not forget my birthday!! I suspect deeply that you whispered it in their dreams or else why did they conspire to celebrate. Cheers Irrfan !! you I missed like never before as we celebrated my birthday by both of them you might not have believed in birthdays but you would be so happy to see them giving me soooo much of love!! #birthdaymom #rockstarboys."
