Popular Indian Celebrities Who Divorced Their Pakistani Spouses: From Sania Mirza To Reena Roy

They say everything is fair in love, and when the love is from across the border, boundaries hardly matter. Even though India and Pakistan share a turbulent relationship, many Pakistani celebs have voiced their eagerness to work in India. Not just work, many of our Indian celebs too have found their soulmate across the border.

These Indian celebrities not only fell in love with the Pakistani celebs but also began their forever journey by marrying them. But sadly, their marriage never saw a happy ending and ended in divorce. Let us read on to learn about some popular Indian celebs who broke their marriage and divorced their Pakistani spouses.

#1. Veteran Indian actress, Reena Roy’s divorce from Pakistani cricketer, Mohsin Khan

Reena Roy was one of the most sought-after actresses in the 70s and 80s. Reena proved her versatility as an actress in films like Jaani Dushman, Aasha, Arpan, Asha Jyoti, Nasseb, Sanam Teri Kasam, Nagin and many others. While she was at the peak of her career, Reena tied the knot with Pakistani cricketer, Mohsin Khan in Karachi. The couple enjoyed their married life for some years and were blessed with a daughter, Jannat.

Reena left the showbiz after her marriage. Soon, problems started cropping up in her life, and her marriage started to fall apart. Mohsin wanted to settle in London with British citizenship, but Reena found it difficult to adjust to his flamboyant lifestyle. In the early 1990s, Reena and Mohsin got divorced. Mohsin got Jannat’s custody and took her to Karachi with himself. Reena fought for their daughter’s custody, which was finally given to her after years.

#2. Indian tennis star, Sania Mirza’s divorce from Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik

Ace Indian tennis sensation, Sania Mirza has made the nation proud with the number of accolades she won for the country. However, she found her soulmate across the border when she met Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. After their initial meetings, Sania and Shoaib fell in love and tied the knot on April 12, 2010.

On October 30, 2018, the star couple embraced parenthood and welcomed a baby boy, whom they have lovingly named Izhaan Mirza Malik. In 2022, rumours started pouring in that Shoaib and Sania were having problems in their marriage and were heading for divorce. It is reported that Sania had reportedly caught Shoaib cheating on her and decided to part ways with him. However, as per the Pakistani media, it is also reported that the star couple is already divorced.

On January 20, 2024, Shoaib Malik surprised everyone when he posted his wedding pictures with Pakistani actress, Sana Javed. Soon after Shoaib’s wedding, Sania’s father, Imran Mirza told PTI that Sania had taken a ‘khula’ from Shoaib. For the unversed, Khula is a legal term in Islam, in which a wife seeks a divorce from her husband.

#3. Popular Indian singer, Adnan Sami’s divorce from Pakistani actress, Zeba Bakhtiar

Adnan Sami is one of the popular singers and music composers in the Indian music industry. He is the voice behind hits like Lift Kara De, Aye Udi Udi Udi, Bhar Do Jholi Meri, Tera Chehra and many more. Adnan was born and raised in UK with roots in both India and Pakistan. Adnan went to Pakistan and began his music program on a Pakistani channel, where he met the gorgeous actress, Zeba Bakhtiar.

After falling head-over-heels in love with Zeba, Adnan tied the knot with her in 1993 when he was just 22. Since Adnan was not popular at that time, his marriage to Zeba didn’t gain much attention. The couple welcomed a son, and named him Azaan Sami Khan. However, after four years of marital bliss, Zeba and Adnan parted ways and got divorced in 1996. Both Zeba and Adnan fought for the custody of Azaan, but the custody was granted to Zeba. In 2001, Adnan moved to India and started living in the country on a visitor's visa. In 2016, the singer formally became an Indian citizen.

#4. Dubai-based Indian businessman, Vikram’s divorce from Pakistani actress, Noor Bukhari

Noor Bukhari is a Pakistani actress, who has appeared in more than 40 Urdu films and 20 Punjabi films. She got married to a Dubai-based Indian businessman, Vikram in 2008 after dating him for 4 years. However, soon the couple parted ways because of some differences and their divorce was finalised in 2010. Noor and Vikram’s spat turned so ugly that their public fight was aired on Geo TV.
