'Idli Kadai', Dhanush's Whopping Fee Revealed As Lead Actor, Director, And Producer Of The Movie

Idli Kadai, Dhanush's latest offering, has finally graced the OTT space and is available on Netflix to be watched and enjoyed. Apart from the Tamil superstar, the film stars Nithya Menen, Shalini Pandey, Rajkiran, and more. However, did you know that, in addition to starring as the main lead, Dhanush is also directing and producing the film? Amid this surprising revelation, here's a look at Dhanush's fees for Idli Kadai as the lead actor, director and producer. 

How much did Dhanush charge as the main lead, director, and producer of Idli Kadai? 

Tamil superstar, Dhanush's fee as the main lead of Idli Kadai was over Rs. 50 crores, as reported by Tamil Samayam. Whether he received this amount only for his acting role or for his directing too hasn't been revealed yet. Meanwhile, as the co-producer of Idli Kadai, Dhanush is said to have incurred losses. As per a report by Sacnilk, the Tamil-language film collected nearly Rs. 71 crores worldwide. However, several reports claim that Idli Kadai was made with a budget of Rs. 100 crores. Hence, its low performance, despite Dhanush's stardom and his pairing with iconic co-star Nithya Menen, is a shock for many. 

Idli Kadai on Netflix 

Idli Kadai hit the theatres on October 1, 2025, and received mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. Within a month of its release, the film is now available on Netflix to stream from October 29, 2025. Originally made in Tamil, the Idli Kadai is available in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Although Idli Kadai reportedly failed to have a profit margin with its budget allegedly exceeding its box office collection, the film could have still made up for the loss after selling Netflix digital rights.

Idli Kadai's plot follows ‘Murugan’, essayed by Dhanush, who dreams of stepping out of his small town, leaving his humble beginnings behind, to rise above his father's small Idli Kadai (idli shop) business. Embarking on the path of making his dreams come true, 'Murugan' sets sail for Madurai in search of success. He toils there for a few years, building a life and career for himself, leaving behind his past as a small-town boy. However, fate has other plans. 'Murugan' is forced back to square one after his father's tragic death. Now, he must take over the Idli Kadai. Meanwhile, he is also to be married to 'Meera', played by Shalini Pandey. But 'Murugan' seems to have feelings for his neighbour, 'Kayal', played by Nithya Menen. 

Apart from these three main stars, Arun Vijay stars as 'Ashwin', the antagonist of the story. Sathyaraj plays the role of a rich businessman and 'Meera's father, 'Vishnu Varadhan'. Rajkiran essays the role of 'Murugan's father, 'Sivanesan'. Along with Dhanush's Wunderbar Films, Idli Kadai is also co-produced by Dawn Pictures, while G.V. Prakash served as the music composer of the film.
