'Housefull 5A' Vs '5B': Akshay Kumar's Latest Madcap Has TWO Endings, Which Version To Book First?

The much-awaited sequel to Bollywood’s favourite comedy franchise is back, and this time, the confusion has escalated from the screen to the box office itself. Yes! If you are planning to book a laughter-filled weekend in the theatre, make sure to check which version to book first. So what’s the deal with the two theatrical versions, Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B? Here’s a breakdown for you.

Housefull 5 hit the theatres with two different versions

Housefull 5, the fifth film in the popular madcap series, has hit theatres on June 6, 2025, reportedly covering 5,000 screens across India, making it one of the widest-released Bollywood movies in recent years. The latest instalment of the iconic franchise features a star-studded cast, including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan.

However, a twist that nobody expected was the slapstick comedy to be released in not one, but two versions, Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B. To make things even more interesting, the only twist between the two versions lies in the climax. So, what is the difference between Housefull 5A and 5B? Here’s what the early viewers are saying.

Housefull 5A and 5B come with distinct twists in the climax

When you think of the Housefull franchise, chaos and confusion are a common expectation. But this time, there is a murder plot, and throughout the film, there will be a hunt for the killer. The plot of Housefull 5 revolves around a billionaire’s murder on a cruise ship. Just before his death, he announces he will leave his massive wealth to his successor, ‘Jolly’. The catch is that there are three ‘Jollys’ onboard: played by Akshay, Riteish, and Abhishek. What follows is a laughter riot with unimaginable chaos, as the three ‘Jollys’ and their respective girlfriends become suspects of the murder.

Now, here’s where it gets even more fun: The first two hours of both versions of the film are exactly the same, but the main twist comes in the last 20 minutes. In each version, there is a different climax, revealing a different killer. So, whether you watch 5A or 5B, you’ll experience the same build-up, but a different climax, which significantly changes the story.

The cast

Regarding the two different versions of the climax, producer Sajid Nadiadwala revealed that this idea had been in his mind for decades. He wanted to create a story where the ending changes depending on where you watch it. He said:

"I have been thinking about this idea for the past 30 years - how to create a thriller with an X factor that leaves the audience talking long after they leave the theatre. So I came up with a story where every theatre will have a different killer.”

What are viewers saying about which version to watch?

Within hours of its release, reactions and reviews are pouring in across social media, and views are divided in their opinions about the two endings, but for good reasons. X (formerly Twitter) is flooded with users gushing about how much they loved the endings. Talking about Housefull 5A, one user wrote:

“Housefull 5 is not a movie, it’s a full-blown circus. Confusion × Chaos × Comedy = Pure madness! Akshay & Riteish back at it again with non-stop LOLs. Leave logic at home, bring popcorn #Housefull5  #Housefull5A.”

5A review

Viewers who watched Housefull 5B left the theatres equally impressed, and they can’t stop praising the laughter riot that happened throughout the movie. One user left a 5-star review of the second version and tweeted:

“#Housefull5Review: LAUGHTER GUARANTEED! (5/5) Just watched #Housefull5 (B) & I'm DYING laughing. #AkshayKumar’s antics got me in tears. The #Housefull franchise at its cast's chemistry is electric. If you love comedy, don't miss #Housefull5B. #Housefull5Review”

Final verdict: 5A or 5B?

However, according to most reviews and those given by film critics, while both versions are filled with non-stop comedy, Housefull 5A leans towards a more cohesive and logically satisfying resolution. But if you’re a fan of madcap endings and over-the-top comedy, 5B is just as enjoyable.
