Jana Nayagan is gearing up for its theatrical release on January 9, 2026. The makers have released the trailer of the film on January 3, 2026. The film has marked the end of Thalapathy Vijay’s 33-year acting career. Apart from Vijay, the film stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Narain and more. Now that only a few days are left for Jana Nayagan’s big screen release, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa fame, VTV Ganesh’s past statement involving Vijay went viral.
In January 2025, an event was held for the film, Sankranthiki Vasthunam, and it was attended by VTV Ganesh and director, Anil Ravipudi. During the event, Ganesh shared an interesting anecdote about Thalapathy Vijay liking the film, Bhagavanth Kesari. Ever since, Vijay has been planning for his last project, speculations were rife that his last film, Jana Nayagan, was a remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer, Bhagavanth Kesari. The film was directed by Anil Ravipudi, and VTV Ganesh was also part of the project.

At the event, Ganesh disclosed that Thalapathy Vijay liked the film, Bhagavanth Kesari and wanted Anil to make a film on him. However, when Vijay’s team called Anil, he said no to the remake. He was quoted as saying:
"Vijay told me he watched Bhagavanth Kesari five times. He liked the film and wants him (Anil) to direct it. When they called and asked him, he said he won’t do a remake. Vijay said he has four or five big directors waiting to make my last film and yet he said no."

During the same event, Anil clarified what Ganesh tried to say. He shared that he didn’t say no to the project and mentioned that there was another discussion related to Vijay’s last film. He highlighted that there were issues with time slots and processes. He was quoted as saying:
"I did not say I won’t make it. There was a whole another discussion. What he meant to say is that, Vijay garu is doing a film now. They have not announced what film it is yet, so it is not right to talk about it yet. He(Ganesh) only meant to say that I had some discussions with Tamil superstar Vijay about his final film. There were some issues with time slots and processes. Vijay called me with a lot of respect."

During a recent media interview, director, H. Vinoth broke his silence on the rumour of Jana Nayagan, a remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer, Bhagavanth Kesari. He shared that it is a film of Thalapathy Vijay. He mentioned that after one show ends, the audience will get their answer regarding whether Jana Nayagan is a remake or not. He was quoted as saying:

"This is a Thalapathy film. Some people might think this is a remake and wonder why they should come and watch it. A few might even get angry. To them, I’ll say just one thing: Please wait until one show ends. You’ll get your answer. People who are coming to watch the film don’t need to worry about whether it’s a remake, whether a few scenes are inspired, or whether it’s just one scene."
Ever since the trailer of Jana Nayagan was dropped by the makers, netizens began pointing out the similarities between Jana Nayagan and Bhagavanth Kesari. A user wrote, "So this is #BhagavanthKesari adaptation with over the top elements and a humanoid robo. Will work in TN for the politics-induced highs it's gonna deliver at points. Other than that… Sathya did well, and action blocks are top tier. Hopefully something to celebrate on." Another user penned, "#JanaNayagan trailer is extremely disappointing! Honestly, it would’ve been better if they hadn’t released it at all. It feels like a reworked version of Bhagavanth Kesari, and not even an upgrade. Everything looks basic and generic."
