Adam Sandler as 'Happy Gilmore' is back on the green field, and this time the stakes are high for the star golfer who gave up on the game long ago. He picks up his clubs this time to fight for his daughter's (played by his real daughter, Sunny Sandler) dream against all odds. While 'Happy's on-screen return has delighted fans, Adam is earning a lot more for his new stride. Given the success of the film's first instalment back in 1996, it was not surprising that the makers made a grand sequel for it with nostalgic moments, celebrity cameos and even bigger paychecks to get most of the original cast back.
To match the expectations and modern cinema practices, Happy Gilmore 2 is made on a much higher budget of approximately USD 30 to 40 million. In comparison, Happy Gilmore was made on a budget of USD 12 million in 1996. However, a major chunk of the latest release's budget has been spent on ensuring the return of the original cast and details about the same are mentioned below.
Adam Sandler has played the titular role of 'Happy Gilmore' in both instalments, and it is not surprising that he is leading the scoreboard for salaries earned by the cast members. The 58-year-old actor has reportedly made USD 20 million for reprising his iconic film because fans can't image a sequel without him in it. Interestingly, it is ten times more than the USD 2 million he received for the original film.
Happy Gilmore 2 begins by showcasing how 'Happy' has entered a darker phase of his life after a personal tragedy. It made him give up his career and turn to alcohol until he was compelled to return to fulfilling his daughter's dream to go to a ballet school. Again, we see 'Happy' restart his journey and find success for his family without missing out on his signature humour. According to a report from The Hindustan Times, Adam's return is a part of his ongoing deal with Netflix, which is worth 275 million USD for multiple films.
Adam Sandler is followed by his fellow cast members, Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, Dennis Dugan, Kevin Nealon and Christopher McDonald, reported Showbiz Galore. Julie, who played 'Happy's wife, 'Virginia', dies in the sequel after being hit by a golf ball, shaping the further plot. She has earned USD 3 million for her role. Next comes Ben Stiller, who made USD 2 million to play 'Hal', a creepy nursing home orderly turned support group runner.

Dennis Dugan, who directed the original film, has also reprised his role as the Tour Championship commissioner, 'Doug Thompson', earning USD 1 million for his stint. He was followed by Kevin Nealon, who earned USD 500,000 to play another pro-golfer-turned-correspondent, 'Gary Potter'. Lastly, the report mentioned that Christopher McDonald earned USD 400 000 to portray 'Shooter McGavin'
However, the specific salaries for the cameos of sports persons and celebrities have been kept under wraps by the makers. What do you think about these figures?
