Sharing his thoughts on critically-acclaimed filmmaker, SS Rajamouli, Prasanth Varma admitted that he draws a lot of inspiration from his work. However, the HanuMan director also revealed that during his college days, he used to hate SS Rajamouli. When Siddharth Kannan asked Prasanth to reveal the reason behind it, the filmmaker disclosed that when he was pursuing engineering in college, he wanted to assist SS Rajamoui in his film project, but the latter said 'no' to him. Prasanth added that he tried multiple times to convince SS Rajamouli, but he had already made his decision. He said:

"I desperately made several attempts to reach out to him to ask if I could join him as an assistant director. I used to send him emails and messages on Twitter requesting the same. He was very sweet and told me that his team was already full. I used to hate him, thinking why he was not taking me in despite me being so talented and hardworking."

Further in the same interview, Prasanth Varma referred to himself as 'Ekalavya' and SS Rajamouli as 'Dronacharya' and explained the similarities between their bonds. The filmmaker admitted that he wanted to work under SS Rajamouli, but because it couldn't happen, he decided to watch and study his work. Prasanth added that just like 'Ekalavya', he learnt everything about filmmaking from his guru, SS Rajamouli. He said:

"But, at the same time, it's like Ekalavya's story. Since Dronacharya couldn't take him as his disciple, he (Ekalavya) learned on his own by observing everything from a distance. The same was the case with me. I learned everything by watching his films, their making videos, and how Rajamouli does stuff."
