One of the coolest, goofiest, most adorable and most loved couples of the industry, who reinstate our faith in love over and over again, Genelia Deshmukh and Riteish Deshmukh have come a long way. Having met for the first time on the sets of Tujhe Meri Kasam, Genelia and Riteish had started dating when she was 18, and he was 23. After ten long years of courtship, they had tied the knot and had embarked on the journey of a happily ever after. While Genelia is best known for her role as Aditi in Jane Tu Ya Jane Na, she had taken a sabbatical post her wedding from the films. The actress is now back with her film, It's My Life, which was shot back in 2007 but hadn't seen the light of the day. Now the film is all set for direct-to-TV release. As Genelia would be seen on the silver screen after a long interval, she's pretty excited. The film, It’s My Life stars Genelia, Harman Baweja, Nana Patekar. Now, in an interview with Pinkvilla, Genelia spoke about her decision to take a sabbatical post marriage.
In the candid conversation with Pinkvilla, Genelia said that she was clear when she had gotten married that she had wanted to spend time with her family. The actress was quoted as saying, “I had worked so much before that, people might have not seen me much in Hindi cinema but in South cinema, I literally worked 365 days of the year And hence, I felt like I needed that kind of a break.” She also said that her family was her priority, and then she had kids.
Genelia also made the shocking revelation that people also told her that her career would end if she marries Riteish, however, that hadn't stopped her. Genelia and Riteish had appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show, where, Riteish had said that he is proud to be known as Genelia’s husband. The doting wife, Genelia had posted the clip on her IG handle and captioned it as “You make me so proud @Riteishd. In a world where a woman has to keep fighting to be treated as an equal, I’m treated as one without even asking… I need to let you know I’m the proudest to be @Riteish’s Baiko #mutualrespect #partnersforlife #dontmakemenlikehimanymore.”

In the same episode, Riteish Deshmukh had also recalled an incident when he was called as ‘Genelia’s husband’ and revealing that his ego was slightly hurt, he had elaborated, “Hum log Bangalore mein Celebrity Cricket League khel rahe, South ki ek team thi jahan par do log khusar-pusar kar rahe the. Sir, ‘Genelia’s husband’? To mera ego thoda hurt hogaya aur main bola, ‘Here I am Genelia’s husband, in Maharashtra, she’s Riteish’s wife’. Toh voh mujhe kya bolta hai, ‘Sir, Riteish’s wife in one state but you Genelia’s husband in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu…” leaving everyone in splits.
