Raymond Chairman, Gautam Singhania is garnering the limelight for all the wrong reasons. The business tycoon announced his separation from his wife, Nawaz Modi, on November 14, 2023. Later, Nawaz revealed being a victim of domestic violence and getting assaulted by her husband, Gautam, on various occasions.
And now, Gautam Singhania’s father and founder of the Raymond Group, Vijaypat Singhania, has made shocking details about his son. In an interview with the Business Today, Vijaypat Singhania revealed that he chose to stand beside his daughter-in-law Nawaz during Gautam and Nawaz's separation.

When asked whether he would be open to speaking to his son, Gautam, if his divorce proceeding does not get into an amicable settlement, Mr Vijayapat said:
“My first answer would be yes, I'd be open to meeting him. My second answer is that meeting him has no meaning because he won't listen to me. And if I say something which he doesn't like, he may scream at me, he may abuse me. He does all these kinds of things. So, I would probably try to keep away as much as I can.”
In the same interview, Vijaypat Singhania also stated that he made a big mistake by handing his business to Gautam. He also revealed that Gautam agreed to give some part of the company and backed out later. Elaborating on the same, he said:
“I have no business. He had agreed to give me some parts of the company. But of course, for him to back out is a two-second deal, he backed out. So I have nothing else, I gave him everything. By mistake I was left with some money on which I'm surviving today. Otherwise I would have been on the road. He'd be happy to see me on the road. I'm sure of that. If he can throw his wife out like this, throw his father out like this, I don't know what he is.”

For the unversed, Vijaypat handed over his business to his son, Gautam Singhania, in 2015. Soon, Gautam drove Vijaypat out of his JK House building in South Mumbai in 2017 and left the father homeless. A few years back, Vijaypat stated that giving a share of his empire to Gautam was a mistake that he shouldn’t have made. Reacting to his father’s statement, Gautam stated that one could not mistakenly gift a business to someone.
Amid the divorce proceedings, Gautama’s estranged wife, Nawaz, has reportedly demanded 75 per cent of his fortune after their divorce. According to a report by the Economic Times, Gautam has tentatively agreed to the demand but also proposed creating a family trust where he would be the sole managing trustee, a term which Nawaz didn't accept.
