Unacademy was founded by Gaurav Munjal, Hemesh Singh, and Roman Saini back in 2015. Today, we are going to explore the life and entrepreneurial journey of Gaurav, whose YouTube channel started Unacademy from scratch. So without further ado, let’s jump straight into his biography.
The CEO and co-founder of Unacademy, Gaurav Munjal was into tech right from an early age. When he was in 9th standard at St. Xavier’s Secondary School, he was a member of the science club. At the mere age of 12, Gaurav started coding. As his age progressed, Gaurav’s passion for technology reached new heights. As a result, he got admission to NMIMS University, where he bagged a degree in Computer Engineering.

When Gaurav Munjal was in college, he created a channel on YouTube. The youngster started uploading video tutorials on his YouTube channel and later renamed it as Unacademy. From uploading tutorials to dropping videos explaining complex topics, Gaurav was in love with the way he was mixing education with technology.

After completing his graduation, Gaurav Munjal was inspired to build a business, and the youngster found an idea in the real estate industry. He founded a business venture named Flatchat, whose sole purpose was to help people get suitable flatmates. After this venture, Gaurav worked at Directi for some time as a software engineer and gained a lot of experience.
As we mentioned above, Gaurav Munjal started a YouTube channel, Unacademy, when he was in college. However, what’s inspiring is that even after graduation, he continued his channel. Even after opening his first business venture, Flatchat, he continued dropping content on his YouTube channel. Even while working at Directi, Gaurav invested his energy in his channel.
All his hard work, dedication and consistency paid off when he thought of transforming his YouTube channel into an educational platform on a broader scale. At that time, he wanted a sharp business partner, and it was Roman Saini, who came forward.
For the unversed, Roman cracked AIIMS admission at the mere age of 16, and when he turned 22, he cracked UPSA CSE. After becoming a district collector in Madhya Pradesh, when Gaurav told him about his idea of building an educational platform, the former left his job and joined him.
Within a year, Unacademy expanded its horizons in different genres and provided free educational resources and content for students across the nation. The buzz around Unacademy was huge, and within months, many educators from different parts of India were hired by Gaurav and his team.

Things changed rapidly for Unacademy when Softbank invested a whopping sum of 150 million USD in its expansion. As per multiple reports, the famous educational technology company is worth Rs. 25,000 crores.
