Fatima Sana Shaikh BREAKS Silence On NEPOTISM, Says, 'Second Grade Treatment Is Done...'

Nepotism seems to be a never-ending debate in the Bollywood industry. While star kids argue that it does not exist and talent matters the most, time and again it has been seen that nepotism does exist. Recently, Fatima Sana Shaikh opened up about her struggles as an outsider in the industry. She revealed how newcomers and outsiders are not treated right, especially when they are not from any powerful background. Fatima also spoke about a co-actor who tried to take all the limelight.

Fatima Sana Shaikh’s struggles in Bollywood

Recently, in an interview with Humans of Bombay, Fatima Sana Shaikh gave insights into the harsh reality of the Bollywood industry. She said that the way an actor is treated on set depends on what role they are playing in the movie. The lead actors are often treated with a lot of respect, care and importance, while the supporting actors are treated as if they are not important at all. She even used the term ‘second grade’ to describe the treatment that supporting actors go through.

She even spoke about why she chooses to be respectful on set. She said that there have been instances where she had been made to feel small and she does not want any one else to feel that way. She always makes sure that she treats everyone right on set. She shared:

"It hundred percent happens, nepotism exists in every industry. I have played character actors, I have played small actors, I’ve experienced the difference. I am very mindful. If I’m on a set and if there’s somebody who’s a character actor or fairly new, I’m very respectful. That’s my responsibility. I don’t want anybody to experience what I have. In instances where I’ve been made to feel small, I don’t want to do the same to others. It’s unnecessary to be badtameez to people."

Fatima Sana Shaikh’s personal experience with a co-actor

In a fun rapid-fire segment, Fatima was asked if any co-star had ever given her any strange  advice. She said, she has never had anything like this but she had a co-star who loved to hog attention and regarding the same she shared an incident without sharing the name of the co-actor. Accidentally, Fatima’s tongue slipped and she mentioned that it was a female co-actor. She revealed that she has worked with someone who always tried to steal the scene, even when it wasn’t about her. She revealed:

"I have had a co-actor who tried to make every scene about themselves. Every scene is written for a particular character, and if you make it about yourself, it makes the scene flat. It’s irritating. When you’re doing a scene and aap aise koni mar mar ke aage ja rahe ho. The scene isn’t even yours."
