Fardeen Khan made his Bollywood comeback last year in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix series, Heeramandi. After delivering an impressive performance in the series, the actor graced the silver screen once again in Housefull 5. Once the blue-eyed boy of Bollywood, Fardeen is making headlines not only for his cinematic comeback but also for his impressive physical transformation. In a heartfelt revelation, the actor opened up about his past struggle with alcohol and how he overcame it with his determination to be a better parent.
In a recent chat with Cyrus Broacha, Fardeen revealed he became sober in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The actor, who began drinking at a young age, said this was the first time he felt clarity and freedom from the brain fog that had clouded his mind for years. He was quoted as saying:
“I was at a stage where I just didn’t feel myself. I became sober in 2020, and I stopped drinking alcohol in one go. I needed to stop, it was interfering with my life. I took professional help to stop, and it was the best decision I have made in my life. I started drinking very, very young, so this was the first time the brain fog lifted.”
A few months ago, speaking to Filmfare, Fardeen Khan broke down, talking about the guilt of not being present around his kids, who live in London. During the conversation, the actor admitted to being addicted to drinking alcohol from a fairly young age. While it was a challenge to give up alcohol for so many years, he finally found his resolve when he looked at his kids and reflected that he wanted to raise them better. The actor shared:
“I had to grow up very quickly, due to the dysfunction in which I grew up. There were aspects of myself I had to shut down. I compensated and distracted myself. There was alcohol and hedonism. I lived a risque life and was on the edge. My dad said I was burning the candle from both ends. I wanted these distractions, but it all catches up. That's what I have learnt. You can't escape it.”
Fardeen Khan’s 14-year break from showbiz was for a deeply personal reason. After marrying Natasha Madhvani in 2005, the couple faced emotional setbacks, including the loss of their twin babies during a pregnancy. Fardeen moved to London to be with Natasha as they pursued IVF treatments. Eventually, they were blessed with two children, Diani and Azarius. In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Fardeen revealed:
“We were having challenges having children, and that’s when we decided to take the IVF route. That’s why I needed to take some time off. It wasn’t meant to be this long. I thought only for a few years… get everything settled, but things didn’t happen that way. Then, when my daughter was born, my heart melted, and I thought, let’s spend some time with her.”
Today, Fardeen Khan is a changed man, who has his priorities set and his health transformed. On the professional front, the actor is receiving praise for his work in Housefull 5, and he has a Kannada film, The Devil, in the pipeline.
