There was a time when Kingfisher shoots were the most popular, and Vijay Mallya took special interest in those, especially for the calendar. It was launched in 2003 under the Kingfisher brand, and photographer, Atul Kasbekar would conceptualise the whole shoot, which had bold swimsuit models flaunting their best selves. The calendar quickly gained popularity by the mid-2000s. Recently, Esha Gupta revealed how Vijay Mallya threw special parties for his models and took a great interest in them.

Recently, in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Esha Gupta was questioned about Vijay Mallya's grand parties, which he threw especially for his models. Siddharth Kannan said that Vijay Mallya took a lot of interest in his Kingfisher models, while Esha Gupta quickly said a big 'Yes'. Siddharth further added that grand parties were hosted for the models, and Esha said that she was never one of them. She shared:

"I wasn’t one of those models."

Siddharth Kannan further questioned Esha if she had ever attended one of Vijay Mallya's special yacht parties, which were hosted for calendar models. Esha denied it and stated that she had never received an invitation to those parties. However, she had attended that party once but not as a model. She said:

"That I’ve never attended. Na mujhe invite aaya, to be honest. I think only one party once I was invited to, but I wasn’t a model back then. I was invited through someone else in Delhi."

Vijay Mallya, in his recent appearance on Raj Shamani's podcast, revealed that several Indian models shot for Kingfisher's yearly Calendar, featuring International locations. Soon, it earned a reputation and a launchpad for a successful modelling and acting career. It featured Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Esha Gupta, to name a few. Vijay Mallya revealed that they would choose the right girls for the calendar, and they had several heroines and stars when they were quite young. He said:

"We chose the right girls, whether it was Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif. We had all the heroines and the stars on the calendar at a younger age. We picked the right talent."

When Vijay Mallya was asked about why several Kingfisher models went on to have a great acting career, he said that they chose the rights girls. He added that the calendar was a branding drill and had nothing personal. Vijay Mallya also stated that it was a marketing tool and he got nothing out of it. He said:

"Because we chose the right girls. I did it because it was a fantastic marketing tool. Did not bring anything to me personally. But it did wonders to the brand."

Vijay Mallya shuts down rumours about his personal linkup stories with the calendar models, and clarified that it was strictly to the calendar. The Kingfisher Calendar was known for launching the careers of several actresses. The impact was such that even inspired Madhur Bhandkar's superhit film, Calendar Girls, which depicted the journey of those aspiring models and the darker aspects of the fashion industry.
