Emraan Hashmi On 'Serial Kisser' Tag, Reveals Wife Has Problems With It, 'These Are Choices I Made'

For the audience of this decade, it is not surprising to see kissing scenes or intimate scenes between actors and actresses on screen. However, for the viewers whose idea of a filmy kiss was two flowers nuzzling on-screen, the liplocking scenes of Emraan Hashmi in the early 2000s were a shock. After his second film, Murder, released in 2004, gained immense popularity due to his intimate scenes, Emraan carved out a niche for himself. He was given the tag of 'serial kisser', and that is what drew the audience to the theatres for his films. However, Emraan, who is a happily married man in his personal life, revealed that his wife, Parveen Shahani, has problems with his intimate scenes in films. 

Emraan Hashmi talks about the 'serial kisser' tag 

Emraan Hashmi expressed his feelings about the 'serial kisser' tag in an interview with Rediff. He said that the tag has become 'synonymous' with him, and he isn't going to fight it. The actor revealed that people go to the theatres to watch him doing those scenes. Drawing parallels with Salman Khan's fan-favourite shirtless scenes, Emraan said that his not doing lip-locking scenes is similar to Salman not taking his shirt off. The audience feels cheated if it doesn't happen. Recalling an incident which happened when he was watching Tum Mile in the theatres, the actor said:

"I was watching Tum Mile and we got to the scene in which Soha (Ali Khan) and I are alone together. Now, in a typical Emraan film, I'm supposed to kiss the girl. Here I don't, and I hear the person next to me go, 'Emraan Hashmi, yeh film main bimaar ho gaya tha kya?' It's become like Salman Khan not taking his shirt off in a film, the audience feels cheated."

Emraan Hashmi talks about his family's reaction to those scenes 

Emraan Hashmi's wife, Parveen has always been a subject of curiosity for the fans, and they always want to know if she is fine with this 'serial kisser' and on-screen playboy image of her husband. The actor said that his family understands that these scenes 'put food on the table,' hence, they help him secure more work in the industry. However, Emraan revealed that his father and his wife do have problems with him 'getting intimate on screen every time'. But even though they don't like it they understand that Emraan had to make certain choices to keep working in the industry for a long time. Talking about his family's reaction to his on-screen image, the actor said:

"They understand that it puts food on the table. My wife and my father have problems with me getting intimate every time, but they know that these are the choices I made for longevity's sake. They might not like it, but they understand it."

Emraan Hashmi also said that every actor has certain expectations attached to them. Some scenes that are symbolic of their career and need to be done in order to keep the audience happy and wanting more. Hence, in his case, on-screen kissing is what the viewers want and expect to see. Emraan then cheekily quipped that for him, it's 'much better and more fun' than taking his shirt off.
