Jurassic World Rebirth is set to release in theatres on July 2, 2025. Directed by Gareth Edwards and penned by David Koepp, this seventh instalment reboots the story five years after Dominion. The story takes place in a remote island research facility where the characters are assigned to locate remaining prehistoric species. Scarlett Johansson headlines the movie as covert operative 'Zora Bennett', joined by Mahershala Ali, who plays 'Duncan Kincaid', and Jonathan Bailey as 'Dr. Henry Loomis'. Despite the stellar star cast, it's someone else who is sparking the most excitement. Meet 'Dolores', the adorable juvenile Aquilops everyone can't get enough of.
Aquilops, meaning eagle-face, it was a real dinosaur, a small ceratopsian from the early Cretaceous period, approximately 109-104 million years ago. It was identified from fossils found in Montana. It stood under a foot tall and were less than two feet long; the humble herbivore likely weighed about 1.5 kg. Scientists confirm that, although only their skull is known, the overall body plan remains plausible based on close relatives, a fact that was paid attention to in the movie and the palaeontologists appreciated when seeing the on-screen representation of the species.
Aquilops will be seen for the first time in Jurassic World Rebirth, with its representative being 'Dolores', a juvenile female Aquilops. She is carefully designed to reflect scientific accuracy. She's light orange-brown with a vibrant orange back, striped tail, darker horns and beak, and dark brown eyes. She became a fan favourite the moment she appeared on screen.
The movie includes three separate 'Dolores' animatronics, each measuring 18 inches in length and operated remotely by a team of puppeteers. The primary animatronic had numerous motors to simulate movements such as breathing, blinking, and tail wagging. This animatronic was used for close interactions with the cast, while another was used in scenes where characters picked up the creature, and a third was used for lighting reference. A lot of 3D-printed parts were used to reduce the weight of the Aquilops.
On set, Audrina Miranda, who plays 'Isabella Delgado', bonded most closely with 'Dolore's. It's 'Isabella's' character who names 'Dolores' in the movie. Miranda shared with NBC Insider:

"Dolores reminded me so much of my dogs… when I first read the script, I had to do some research online… when I finally met her…it was like the animatronics team… turned those pictures into reality".
Jonathan Bailey, who plays 'Dr. Henry Loomis' in the movie, describes 'Dolores' as the sweetest and cutest dinosaur he has ever seen. He recalls a scene where they are running and 'Dolores' looks behind towards him. Bailey loved it and was endeared by the cuteness of the little dinosaur.
Rupert Friend, who plays 'Martin Krebs' in the movie, says there is a character in the animatronic. She has a personality. He calls it the most adorable thing ever and says he wouldn't be surprised if she is everyone's favourite, because she surely is his.
The director, Gareth Edwards, informed that the days she was on set were always the longest as everyone around the set was so charmed by her. They all wanted to pet her and touch her. No one wanted to go home; they would stay back to spend time with 'Dolores'.
Starting June 12, 2025, Universal Studios Hollywood introduced 'Dolores' in live meet-and-greet sessions. Handlers carry her, bringing her to their shoulders, with arms out for interactive guest experiences near Jurassic World. Photos from the show, families and children delighted as 'Dolores' responds with gentle coos and vocalisations that are carefully incorporated into her design.
The marketing blitz for the movie prominently featured 'Dolores'. Mattel introduced "Primal Protector Aquilops' Dolores," an interactive toy that mimics tame-and-train play. You can pat her forehead to soften her gaze, activate protective mode with her tail, and then feed her treats that include liquorice.
LEGO introduced the "Baby Dinosaur Dolores: Aquilops" set in June 2025, which includes a poseable brick model with movable limbs, priced at approximately USD 25. 'Dolores' became a successful marketing gimmick, ensuring a huge audience was excited and eager to watch the movie.
Across social media platforms, fans' reactions towards 'Dolores' are overwhelmingly positive. Many praised her design, voice and role. A user on Instagram committed, "So cute it hurts," and many took to Twitter/X to gush over her cuteness. A user on X tweeted, "She's the first dinosaur I'd want as a pet," and another one said, "Finally, a JP character you can hug, not run from."
Over the years, Jurassic World sequels have faced criticism for sidelining dinosaurs in favour of human plots and CGI spectacles. Rebirth shifts that dinosaurs are actual characters again, scary, handsome and, for once, lovable. People are celebrating the resurgence of dinosaur-centric wonder.
Will 'Dolores' appear in future Jurassic instalments? The toy line, LEGO set, theme park presence, and museum events suggest she's more than a cameo. She's a new face of the franchise, kid-friendly, grounded in science and a likely ambassador for future interactive dinosaur experiences. However, will she return? That is something only time will tell.
From her accurate design to her on-screen bond with 'Isabella', 'Dolores' is already standing out as a beloved addition to the series, proving that sometimes, the smallest creatures make the most significant impact.
