Diljit's 'Sardaar Ji 3' Makes Record Breaking Opening In Pakistan, Highest Ever For An Indian Film

Diljit Dosanjh and the entire team of his upcoming film, Sardaar Ji 3, have found themselves in hot water after the film's trailer was launched. From the trailer, people got to know that Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir, has been retained in the film despite the India-Pak tensions due to the attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. Amidst this backlash, the film was released on June 27, 2025, only overseas, excluding India. However, the first-day collection of this Punjabi film has broken all records in Pakistan and has even surpassed the opening collection of this blockbuster Salman Khan film.

Sardaar Ji 3 performs well overseas, becoming the third-best opening for a Punjabi film

Sardaar Ji 3starring Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa in the lead roles, and featuring Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir. Released on a Friday, June 27, 2025, the film earned USD 500K (approximately Rs. 4.5 crore) from the overseas market. With these huge numbers, the film's opening day is being called the highest ever for a Punjabi film. However, a Pinkvilla report stated that relatively it is behind Jatt and Juliet 3, and Carry On Jatt. The reason is that both these films were released mid-week, meanwhile Sardaar Ji 3 was released on a Friday. Hence, Friday openings are generally always better for films, given the weekend. So, when compared on this basis, Sardaar Ji 3's opening day is the third best for a Punjabi film.

Sardaar Ji 3 breaks records with first day earnings, on July 27, 2025 in Pakistan

Due to high inflation rates, the prices of movie tickets are exceptionally high in Pakistan. Moreover, since Bollywood films were banned in the country, the movie theatre market had shrunk with many theatres going out of business. Additionally, being an Urdu-speaking nation, Indian-Punjabi films only used to draw audience in Pakistan's region of West Punjab. Despite all these issues, Sardaar Ji 3 has emerged as the highest first-day opener in the country. It has also surpassed the record set by the 2016 release, Sultan, starring Salman Khan, who has a massive fan following in Pakistan. The controversy and boycott calls in India for featuring a Pakistani actress seem to have made the film more popular in Pakistan, given the historical tensions.

Producer of Sardaar Ji 3 revealed the loss the film will incur

Gunbir Singh Sidhu stated in an interview with NDTV that for his previous film, Jatt and Juliet 3, the team earned 40% of the revenue from India and the rest from overseas. It was also the first Punjabi film to reach the Rs. 100 crore milestone at the worldwide box office. Taking these estimates into account, the producer has stated that the film has already incurred a 40% loss in revenue. The producer also stated that he does not support Pakistani artists and will not work with them in the future. However, he clarified that during the film's shooting process situation was 'normal' between the two nations. In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit also stated that since the filmmakers had invested a lot of money, he supported their decision to release the film overseas, except in India.
