Diljit Dosanjh Celebrates The Success Of 'Sardaar Ji 3' Amid Backlash In India Over Hania's Casting

Diljit Dosanjh, who started 2025 on a high with back-to-back sold-out concerts across India and his much-talked-about Met Gala debut, has now found himself at the centre of a new controversy. The popular singer-actor's latest Punjabi film, Sardaar Ji 3, became a subject of controversy after its trailer revealed that Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir worked as a lead in the film. Soon, netizens began to criticise her casting in the light of recent Indo-Pak tensions over the Pahalgam attack, and the makers of the film decided to release it overseas only. As a storm over the film continues to brew in India, Diljit Dosanjh recently shared some posts to highlight the film's success.

Diljit Dosanjh celebrates the success of Sardaar Ji 3 in Pakistan and the global sector

Since Diljit Dosanjh continued to associate himself with Sardaar Ji 3 despite Hania Aamir's casting, netizens and organisations like the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) have demanded strict action against him. Meanwhile, Diljit is only focused on the film's performance and the love it is receiving outside the country. He took to his Instagram handle on June 29, 2025, and re-shared multiple videos of audience's reactions from theatres in Pakistan. One of the clips was shared by Universal Cinemas, where a theatre was jam-packed with audiences who excitedly cheered for the film, especially a scene where Hania Aamir appeared on the screen. The video featured a text which read:

"12 shows on ultra screens, the largest in the country. The overwhelming response from the audience for Sardaar Ji 3. Come and watch!"

Diljit Dosanjh defended Sardaar Ji 3's release

Diljit Dosanjh is promoting Sardaar Ji 3 outside the country and recently sat down for an interview with BBC Asian, where he reacted to the release of Sardaar Ji 3's release overseas and the backlash received in India. The actor-singer explained that they had cast Hania Aamir long ago and shot the film with her in February 2025, long before the Pahalgam attack. He mentioned that the situation changed later, and it wasn't in their control anymore. However, considering the sentiments of Indian audiences, the makers decided to release the film overseas to regain some part of their investment. Consequently, Diljit extended his support to the maker's decision. In his words:

"Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bhut saari badi cheezen humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. They know there will be a loss because you're removing an entire territory. Even when I signed the film, everything was fine. Now, the situation is not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them."

FWICE urged the makers of Diljit's upcoming film, Border 2, to remove him from the film

After the trailer release of Sardaar Ji 3, the FWICE has publicly requested the makers of Border 2 to remove Diljit Dosanjh from the film. They mentioned that it's 'unacceptable' to cast him in a patriotic film like Border 2. However, they did not receive any reply from the producers, Bhushan Kumar and Nidhi Dutta. At the same time, they have urged the defence minister, Rajnath Singh, to withdraw the film's permission to shoot on the premises of the National Defence Academy (NDA).
