The terrorists believed in his fabricated story and started working with him. He, too, while staying with them, learned about their networks and how they worked. Well, after it was slightly known that 'Iftikhar Bhatt' was Major Mohit Sharma by the group, he was attacked, and during the same, he successfully took down two terrorists, Abu Torara and Abu Sabzar. Following this, he was assigned another mission, in which he was martyred. The operation took place back in 2009 in the Kupwara District of North Kashmir. He was hit by a bullet, and even in that state, he took down four terrorists. For his bravery in the field and contribution to the nation, he was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra in 2009.
