Diljit Dosanjh is one of the most popular actors in Bollywood and also appears in Punjabi films. The Punjab-based actor is well-known for his carefree nature and has a huge fanbase. Ever since Zee5 dropped Diljit's first look for his upcoming detective film, Detective Sherdil, fans have been very excited to see their favourite star. For the unversed, Ravi Chhabriya’s film, Detective Sherdil, will start streaming on Zee5 on June 20, 2025. Now, the OTT platform has released the most anticipated trailer of Detective Sherdil.

Detective Sherdil’s trailer unveils a high-profile murder mystery involving dark family secrets

The trailer starts with the murder of a business tycoon, 'Pankaj Bhatti', played by veteran actor, Boman Irani. The trailer also introduces the family members of the businessman. Ratna Pathak Shah, portrays the role of Boman’s wife, a son who is considered a 'black sheep' of the family, played by Sumeet Vyas and a mute daughter, 'Shanti', played by Banita Sandhu. In the trailer, Boman’s widow is seen mentioning a will made by her late husband, 'Pankaj', which has been stolen by a man. The murder, which apparently looked like a business rivalry, soon turned into a family drama where the family members of Boman became the prime suspects.

Diljit Dosanjh, a non-serious detective solves a high-profile murder case in his own desi style

When the trailer starts with a close-up shot of Diljit Dosanjh and quickly shifts to Diana Penty, who introduces the murder of the billionaire, 'Pankaj Bhatti'. For the unversed, in the upcoming detective film, Diljit, will be seen playing a quirky detective who takes up the high-profile murder case, and tries to solve the case in his own way possible. In the trailer, Diljit says that he is Sherlock for the white people, Byomkesh for the desi people and for his parents, he is 'Karamchand'. The serious murder mystery is filled with comic elements due to Diljit’s unique style of solving a case. According to a report by Bollywood.com, Diljit said that it was fun for him to play such a character in Detective Sherdil. In his words:

"Playing Detective Sherdil has been fun for me. The character quirks and this attitude is something that I have tried differently. Hope audiences enjoy this character and the film."

Netizens' reaction to Detective Sherdil

Soon after the trailer was dropped by Zee5, netizens rushed to the comment section to share their reviews. A Diljit Dosanjh fan wrote, "Apna dosanjhawala on top folks." Some netizens were excited to watch the star cast and simply wrote, "Star cast", with some star emojis. Detective Sherdil's director, Ravi Chhabriya, also reacted to the trailer and commented with emojis. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 fame, Andrew Rolfe, who is also one of the cast in Detective Sherdil, also commented. His comment can be read as:

"Honoured to be in the trailer and share the screen with this legendary talent."

The upcoming detective film, Detective Sherdil, is not like the usual detective thrillers, but has come up with new ideas to solve the murder mystery, with both suspense and comedy. The film is shot in Budapest and is directed by Ravi Chhabriya. Besides the unique murder mystery solving, fans are eagerly waiting to watch the stellar cast of the movie. The ensemble cast includes Boman Irani, Diljit Dosanjh, Chunky Panday, Diana Penty, Ratna Pathak Shah, Sumeet Vyas, and Banita Sandhu. According to a report by Times Now, Detective Sherdil’s filming was completed back in 2023 and was waiting for release. But, now the detective film is all set to release on June 20, 2025, and the fans can watch it on Zee5.
