Dancing with the Stars is the American dance reality TV series that has successfully made its place in the hearts of its audience. Now with it's Season 34, the show has brought new glitz and glamour through its performances. As it inches closer to its grand finale, each week becomes more exciting. For the unversed, the reality show is scheduled to go off air on November 25, 2025. Now that the 9th week is knocking at the door, let’s have a look at what’s in store for us.
In the upcoming episode, titled The 20th Birthday Party, it is all about a grand celebration. For the uninitiated, the 9th week of DWTS Season 34 will celebrate the show's 20 successful years, which premiered in 2005. On this special occasion, the original host, Tom Bergeron, is all set to return to Dancing with the Stars. Earlier, he hosted DWTS for 14 years from 2005 to 2019. After his controversial exit in 2019, Tom is excited to return as the guest judge. Talking about his comeback for a night only, he revealed on the show, Good Morning America:
"It feels really good. I’m really looking forward to it. I think 20 years of any primetime show is amazing, but for a show that’s 20 years old that’s also having a ratings resurgence—you’re more likely to see a zebra playing the piano."

The upcoming episode of Dancing with the Stars will begin with a grand opening dance choreographed by Derek Hough. The performance has been set to a new live version of the DWTS theme by Ray Chew. What makes this grand opening even more special is the reunion of six original pros from Season 1, Alec Mazo, Ashly DelGrosso, Louis van Amstel, Jonathan Roberts, Charlotte Jorgensen, and Edyta Sliwinska, with the current pros and troupe.

The 9th episode will also have an emotional segment. During this heartfelt segment, the show will honour the beloved DWTS performers who passed away over the years, with a special performance of Ezra Sosa and Rylee Arnold on Lady Gaga’s hit song, Always Remember Us This Way. It is worth mentioning that Ezra and Rylee not only will perform but have also choreographed the dance number.

The upcoming episode, Episode 9 of Dancing with the Stars Season 34, is all about nostalgia and innovation. As the grand finale is round the corner, the competition is becoming quite tough. During the 9th episode, the first round will feature the remaining seven celebrity–pro couples. They will perform a fresh dance style, each inspired by some iconic freestyle routines from past seasons of DWTS. Later in the evening, the famous Relay Dance competition makes a comeback with a new twist.

In this challenge, two pairs will share the same song: one pair will dance the first half, while the other finishes it. In this segment, the judges, Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli, will choose a winner for each relay and award them with two bonus points. However, Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas, who earned the highest number of scores last week, will skip the relay round and receive the two bonus points. This time, the relay round includes a brand-new twist.

For the first time, celebrities will not perform with their professional partners. They will team up with the former Mirrorball champions. The Episode 9 lineup will feature Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy who will be performing a Foxtrot to Singin’ in the Rain, Robert Irwin and Witney Carson will dance a Foxtrot to Footprints in the Sand, Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas will showcase an Argentine Tango to Cell Block Tango, Dylan Efron and Daniella Karagach will present an Argentine Tango to Ain’t No Sunshine, Andy Richter and Emma Slater will perform a Quickstep to Puttin’ on the Ritz, Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten will deliver a Salsa to It Takes Two and Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa will present a Cha Cha to Get Up.
