Bhool Chuk Maaf was released on the silver screen after a major back and forth. Amid the rising heat between India and Pakistan, the makers had decided to release the film directly on the OTT platforms. However, a Rs. 60 crore lawsuit later, the film was released in the movie halls, but to the fans, it was quite a letdown. While some found it a chill watch, others were left irritated and even called it a 'poor man's Brahmastra'. Read to find out what exactly went down.
The audience was intrigued by the teaser of a confused groom, essayed by Rajkummar Rao, stuck in a time-loop of his own haldi ceremony. The romantic comedy was set in Varanasi, and the makers made sure viewers don't forget that, with aerial shots of the city throughout the 121-minute-long film. Still, ironically, the audience found it difficult to make it their next 'Tu Ban Ja Gali Banaras Ki',
Coming to the story, Rajkummar Rao is a phenomenal actor, and the audience was thrilled about Wamiqa Gabbi being cast in the film. However, the duo failed to deliver what had been promised. The hopeless romantic, 'Ranjan Tiwari' securing a government job to marry his girlfriend, 'Titli Mishra' appeared to be out of tune with the reality for the audience, as Ranjan's jugaad seems to have worked more favourably to secure him a job in a country where, in reality, one is stuck in an actual loop of competitive exams. Nonetheless, without any further adieu, let's take a look at what netizens thought about the film.
Soon after the release, netizens took to X to share their views on the film. A user penned, "The Nibba-Nibbi love story, expressions and conversations between #RajkummarRao and #WamiqaGabbi are highly irritating and take away all the sensitivity out from an important Social topic. A film with literally zero Laughs. Boring." Another wrote, "Today we watched Film #BhoolChukMaaf at the censor board office, and it’s not good even for #OTT. It’s one of the most crap films Bollywood made during the last 25 years. It will be a sure-shot disaster in the theatres and OTT also." A comment read:
"AVERAGE! It starts off on a promising note and has a fairly entertaining first half with a decent dose of comedy and good performances. However, the 2nd half is disappointing. The narration gets repetitive. The climax is good, though. Music is okay."
A commenter said, "#BhoolChukMaaf is an odd little film. What begins as another plucky, pleasant small-town comedy (which consistently flirts with humour but never entirely delivers) gives way to a sloppily established time-loop film which only threatens to go to some interesting places." Another user wrote, "While the film aims at delivering a good message, the execution is flawed. Barring a few moments, the entire comedy falls flat. The constant hamming of the lead actors throughout makes it an irritating watch." However, while the film might not earn a spot in your next favourite comfort film, many found it to be a good one-time watch.
