Sharing the moment while he tried to convince his family about his acting career, Barun said:
"My mom said ki beta har koi Shah Rukh Khan nahi banta hai (son, not everybody becomes Shah Rukh Khan) and my reply to mom was mujhe Shah Rukh Khan nahi banna hai (I don’t even want to be Shah Rukh Khan). If I go and try to do something, I want to be my own person."
For the uninitiated, Barun made his last TV appearance in 2017, with the third season of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. In a past interview with Digital Commentary, Barun shared why he switched to films and OTT and left the Television industry. The actor shared that the reason behind leaving the Television industry was creative differences, as the industry gave more importance to money rather than innovation. Barun also mentioned how dissatisfied he was with the scripts of TV serials, as that didn’t match with his long-term aspirations.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Barun revealed that he was not at all convinced with his performance in his debut TV serial, Shraddha. The actor mentioned that he often wondered why the makers were paying him for the role. Sharing his dissatisfaction, Barun said:
"I was so bad. When I started getting paid at that time, I was like ‘why are these guys paying me.’ I am not taking anything away from me but I was bad."
In the same interview, Barun shared what kind of person he is in real life. The actor mentioned that money has never been a motivation, but creative satisfaction matters the most to him. He also shared that he is having Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Addressing the same, Barun said:
"I'm not a very materialistic person. I was not the kind of person (who’s like) ‘I want this much money’. Money never motivated me. I found that these were the things that motivated me when I was a kid. Because I didn’t have a lot of brain. And when I grew up, I figured out that creative satisfaction matters a lot to me. I’m ADHD anyway. I go crazy if I’m not doing anything that is satisfying to me. But it took some time to understand that."
Barun tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Pashmeen Manchana on December 12, 2010. The duo first met in the ninth standard. The couple first became close buddies and later fell in love. The duo had a hush-hush wedding at Gurudwara with only close friends and a few family members.
