'Baramulla' Movie Review, Manav Kaul Tackles The Mysterious Horror Tale Involving Missing Children

Baramulla, the Netflix film starring Manav Kaul, is far more chilling than a horror film. For the unversed, the film directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale has been released today, November 7, 2025. Baramulla features a no-nonsense cop who gets involved in a mysterious case involving missing children. In 2016, the producer of the film, Aditya Dhar, wrote a short story on the Kashmiri Pandit community, who were forced to leave their homeland in the 1990s due to rising militancy and violence in the region. Now, the story has been adapted for the screen.

Plotline of the film, Baramulla

The story revolves around 'DSP Ridwaan Shafi Sayyed' (played by Manav Kaul), who is trying to balance his life after recently shifting from Reasi to the peaceful town of Baramulla, Kashmir. In Reasi, a horrifying hostage situation and an accidental gunshot death in a public school have shocked both 'Ridwaan' and his daughter, 'Noorie'. The duo is battling Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

While the 'Sayyeds' were trying to rebuild their lives, another chilling incident took place in the snow-laden town of Baramulla. A young boy named 'Shoaib' mysteriously vanishes during a magic show. While 'Ridwaan' starts tracking the mysterious disappearances of the children, it soon turns into a series of missing children. As 'Ridwaan' delves deeper into the investigation, a dark chapter in history comes to light, blurring the line between reality and horror.

Manav Kaul is the showstopper of the film, Baramulla

Manav Kaul’s performance is the heart of the film. Manav, as 'DSP Ridwaan Shafi Sayyed', is a man who is torn between duty, guilt, and fatherhood. Although 'Ridwaan' has his own set of traumas to deal with, he still remains glued to the chilling investigation in order to find out the truth. 'Ridwaan's chemistry with 'Noorie' added emotional depth to Manav’s strong screen presence. His subtle yet magnetic portrayal of vulnerability makes him the showstopper of the film, Baramulla.

Baramulla is a tale of history and faith mixed with horror and reality

Baramulla reaches its emotional peak in the climax, where history and horror intersect seamlessly. The film’s true horror isn’t the jump scares, but a real anguish that led to the 1990s Kashmiri Pandit exodus. When 'Ridwaan's' wife, 'Gulnaar' and their children, 'Noorie' and 'Ayaan' begin sensing a paranormal presence in their new house, they discover the spirits of a Kashmiri Pandit family who suffered a lot and experienced horrific atrocities in their home.

During the process of helping those souls find peace, the 'Sayyed' family confronts their own trauma and guilt. The narrative features a bitter truth that violence spares no one, Hindu, Muslim, adult, or child, and it is empathy that can transcend faith. Within 1 hour and 52 minutes, Baramulla blends motifs of belief, loss, and redemption as it explores Kashmir’s fragmented psyche.
