Athiya Shetty is a former actress and the daughter of renowned actor, Suniel Shetty. She came into the spotlight after she stepped in front of the camera and made her debut opposite Sooraj Pancholi in the Salman Khan-backed film, Hero in 2015. Despite mixed reviews, the film made her the talk of the town. However, since 2019, Athiya hasn't been seen in any project which piqued the curiosity of fans. Instead, she tied the knot with cricketer, KL Rahul and embraced motherhood. Now, in a recent interview, Suniel Shetty opened up about Athiya's decision not to star in a film and her plans for the future, which have been met with criticism from netizens.

Suniel Shetty reveals Athiya Shetty has quit Bollywood 

Suniel Shetty, who is on a promotional spree for his new movie, Kesari Veer, recently sat down for an interview with Zoom. During the conversation, he shared that his daughter, Athiya Shetty, has decided to bid goodbye to the acting world after just three films. He revealed that Athiya confessed to him that she wasn't interested in doing any more films and took the decision to back off. Suniel mentioned that his daughter was offered many new projects after her last film, Motichoor Chaknachoor in 2019. However, he emphasised that she has made up her mind. Recalling the same, the actor said:

"She said, 'Baba, I don't want to,' and she just left. And that's what I salute her for saying, 'I'm not interested. I don't want to do films.' After Motichoor Chaknachoor, a lot came her way. 'But I don't want to. I am comfortable, you know?'"

Suniel Shetty, who is proud that his daughter recognised her calling, shared that Athiya Shetty is happy in her life with her new responsibilities. For those unaware, Athiya Shetty and her husband, KL Rahul, welcomed their first child, a daughter, Evaarah on March 24, 2025. Consequently, the former actress wants to dedicate her time to motherhood, and she is enjoying the new phase in her life. In his words:

"And today, she's got the best role of her life. You know, she's working in the best film, and that is the life, the role of a mother, and she's loving it."

Netizens troll Athiya Shetty for having a short stint in Bollywood 

When Suniel Shetty's announcement about his daughter, Athiya Shetty's decision to quit Bollywood went viral, netizens began to call her out. Some felt that it was obvious since she didn't star in a movie after 2019, while others criticised her short filmy career for pointing out that she was barely there. One netizen penned, "Why is he even announcing? She hasn't done a movie in 7-8 years, it was quite obvious." Another user mocked Athiya's acting and wrote, "It was obvious after watching her debut film." Meanwhile, a netizen commented, "She never joined in the first place."

Athiya Shetty's career in Bollywood 

Athiya Shetty stepped into Bollywood with the 2015 film, Hero, co-starring Sooraj Pancholi. It was directed by Nikhil Advani and produced by Salman Khan. The film failed to perform at the box office but brought the actress into the spotlight. After two years, Athiya starred in her second film, Anees Bazmee's multi-starrer Mubarakaan, co-starring Arjun Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz. She was last seen in a rom-com, Motichoor Chaknachoor, with Nawazuddin Siddiqui in 2019.
