Arjun Kapoor made his acting debut in the 2012 drama film Ishaqzaade. He received massive recognition and even won the Zee Cine Award for Best Male Debut. Arjun achieved further hits with Gunday, 2 States and Ki & Ka but that was followed by a series of unsuccessful films.
Arjun Kapoor is being complimented for his off-the-chart portrayal of 'Danger Lanka' in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again. However, the actor recently disclosed that he was not in love with cinema when he filmed the blockbuster. He shared that he was in the worst phase of his life when he signed the film and didn't want to do the role. The actor was struggling professionally, as he had delivered a series of flops and was also reportedly dealing with his breakup from Malaika Arora.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Arjun revealed that when he signed the film he was struggling in all aspects of his life. The actor had also been honest about his mental and physical struggles in the past. Arjun also added that it was director, Rohit Shetty, who told him to be in the look because he will film his shots whenever it is possible. The actor revealed:
"When I signed this film, I was going through the worst phase of my life, personally, professionally, emotionally, mentally, and physically…Rohit sir had told me, 'I need you to be in the look because we will shoot with you whenever possible'. I just took that as a stepping stone towards my own personal development as well."
In the same interview, Arjun shared that he was not seeking to do any films because he believes that one cannot do multiple things at once. The actor was last seen alongside Bhumi Pednekar in Rajendra Joshi's The Lady Killer in 2023, which turned out to be the biggest flop in the history of Bollywood. He shared that he did not think that he would be getting such roles and thus was not excited about it either.
The Bhoot Police actor shared that this film is probably the most entertaining and biggest film of his career and he has done this while not being in love with cinema. He reflected on how it's ironic since cinema is all he has ever known since he grew up in Bollywood. Kapoor also shared that he feels like the feeling of excitement was not there in him when he did the film. He shared:
"Arguably I have shot the most entertaining commercial film of my life, the biggest film of my life while not really being in love with cinema and that’s quite a paradox if you look at it and this is a kid who has grown knowing only cinema. That twinkle in my eye was not there."
Amid the success of Singham Again, Arjun reflected on the time when he gave 7 back-to-back flops. He shared that he used to wonder if things would work out for him if people would care about him again. He also shared that Rohit Shetty filmed his scenes in shots so that he could process his emotions while filming. He concluded by saying his doubts were not about his ability to portray the character, but rather if people will like it.
"I used to wonder sometimes, ‘What’s the point of it all? Is it really going to pan out? Am I going to be in love with cinema again? Are people really going to care about me again? Is the audience going to reject me? Question it? I was going through all that while I was doing the film. Not in the moment of the shot, but my schedule was scattered while I shot for 50-odd days for the film. I have never been with all the other actors to that degree, I was very isolated during my shoot. The baggage was there. I didn’t doubt my ability to do the role, I doubted whether people would engage."
