Andy Byron Before Being Astronomer CEO Was A College Athlete Played Baseball Professionally

Astronomer's former CEO, Andy Byron, has been in the soup after a kiss cam video of him and Astronomer's HR head, Kristin Cabot, created a stir on social media. Now, he has again been in the headlines not for his personal life, but a report has been doing the rounds about him being in sports during his college time. For the unversed, Andy went on leave after he was caught canoodling with Kristin at the Coldplay concert. When the camera zoomed in on them, their faces appeared at the Gillette Stadium, Massachusetts, and soon they parted ways. However, did you know Andy was a baseball player?

Andy Byron was in his school's baseball team

It was on July 16, 2025, when the kiss cam fiasco of Andy and Kristin came into the limelight. However, once upon a time, Andy was altogether in a different spotlight. A report by the Hindustan Times shared that he was once upon a time an athlete in college and also had a brief time as a professional baseball player. He had been to Providence College, located in Rhode Island, where he wanted to be in the baseball team for the school. Now, according to a report by The Providence Journal, Byron was taken by the minor league team back in 1997. A 1997 season profile from the Stas Crew read:

"Andy Byron led the team with 8 wins, while George Lovett recorded a 3 ERA, best among qualifying pitchers."

Well, on one side, when Kristin and Andy were caught in front of thousands of people at the Coldplay concert, they immediately ducked out when their faces came on the Jumbotron. Well, on the other side, reportedly, Andy had stood out as a baseball player back in his days. His statistics showed he was not too bad at pithing. Andy Byron led the team with 8 wins, and despite his best effort, the team was not the best in the league. They finished fifth at the end of the season in the Heartland League with a record of 32-39, according to Stats crew.

Andy Byron's Astronomer team is upset with his kiss cam act

Well, Andy has reportedly resigned from Astronomer as the CEO, and a formal internal investigation is being done by the company after he was placed on leave. Andy went viral on social media immediately after the kiss cam moment with Kristin. Coldplay's lead singer, Chris Martin, seeing Andy and Kristin snuggling together, also said that either they were having an affair or were just too shy. When days later he formally resigned, the Astronomer released an official statement that read:

"Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted. The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO,” the company said in an official statement. As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.”
