Alok Nath's Affair With Neena Gupta, She Played His On-Screen Daughter-In-Law, Parted Ways Amicably

Tagged as the sanskari babuji of the entertainment world, Alok Nath is one of the prominent names of the film and telly world. Known for his roles in films like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Vivah, Alok is known for his ideal on-screen image. Born on July 10, 1956, Alok always wanted to be an actor and pursued his dreams.

It was in his final year at NSD that he auditioned for Sir Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi, which won an Oscar. Since then, there was no looking back for Alok, who worked in films such as Kachchi Kali, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Maine Pyar Kiya, Agneepath, Pardes, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Dil Hai Tumhara, and others.

Before venturing into films, Alok Nath began his career in television in 1980 with the show, Rishte Naate. However, he gained recognition in the show, Buniyaad, followed by Tara, Basera, Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai, Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and many more. Talking about his personal life, Alok Nath married Ashu Singh in 1987. However, the actor was once linked with his on-screen daughter-in-law, Neena Gupta.

Alok Nath and Neena Gupta started working together in the serial, Buniyaad, in 1986, directed by Ramesh Sippy and Jyoti Sarup. In the show, Alok played the role of ‘Master Haveliram’, while Neena played the role of his daughter-in-law, 'Rajjo'.

As per multiple reports, while working together, the duo fell in love. However, Alok’s father was against the relationship, so the relationship didn’t last long, and the duo parted ways amicably before the end of the show.

When Alok Nath faced serious allegations of rape

During the Me Too movement in 2018, TV writer and producer, Vinta Nanda accused Alok Nath of rape. Vinita’s accusation came as a shock to many, as Alok’s sanskari image didn’t match the allegations levied against him. Vinta’s strong allegations against Alok Nath shook everyone from his fans to many industry people. 

In a Facebook post, Vinita opened up about the harassment that she faced 19 years ago during the shoot of a TV series, Tara. She penned her ordeal and revealed how he spiked her drink and raped her multiple times. Additionally, she stated that it wasn’t a one-time incident.

Following Vinita’s allegations, many actresses came forward to share their experiences of working with him and facing similar situations. Actress, Sandhya Mridul, also revealed facing a similar kind of harassment from Alok in the initial stages of her career. Not just this, actress, Deepika Amin also tweeted about facing a similar situation.

Alok Nath reacted to the rape allegations

The accusations levied on Alok Nath came as a shock to many, who idolised the actor. When Alok Nath was asked to comment on the allegations against him, he said in a statement:

"Neither I am denying this, nor do I would agree with it. It (rape) must have happened, but someone else would have done it."

In 2019, Alok Nath was granted bail by the Session Court on a bond of Rs. 5 lakhs. The Cine and TV Artists Association (CINTAA) had also expelled Alok from the organisation due to his non-cooperation.
